Here's our picks for Tuesday's US Open action

The 2019 US Open has moved into the quarter finals and there are a number of exciting ties on the card for Tuesday at Flushing Meadows. The men’s side of the draw has opened up following the exit of Novak Djokovic, while there are a number of contenders on the women’s side. Here are four picks for Day Nine of the final Grand Slam of the year.

Serena Williams v Wang Qiang

US Open women’s singles quarter-final, Tuesday September 2

After a crushing defeat to Simona Halep in the Wimbledon final, nobody was quite sure what to expect from Serena Williams at this year’s US Open. However, the 37-year-old has grown into the tournament and had no issues in swatting aside Petra Martic in the round of 16. Williams has only had her serve broken three times in four matches.

On the face of things. Wang Qiang is out of her depth at this level. The 27-year-old has never before made it to the second week of a Grand Slam, but as she demonstrated in the win over Ashleigh Barty in the last round Qiang has great fight and it’s feasible that her movement could give Williams a bit of a problem.

Stan Wawrinka v Daniil Medvedev

US Open men’s singles quarter-final, Tuesday September 2

This promises to be the most compelling quarter final on the men’s side. Stan Wawrinka might have benefited from the shoulder injury suffered by Novak Djokovic in the round of 16, but nonetheless the Swiss was in sparkling form against the world number one. At 34, and with the injuries he has suffered in recent years, this could be Wawrinka’s last chance to win another Grand Slam.

Daniil Medvedev has revelled in his status as Flushing Meadows’ favourite villain, coming from one set down to see off Dominik Koepfer in the last round. The Russian was billed as a player to watch before the tournament due to his summer form and victory at the Cincinnati Masters and he has lived up to that. Medvedev is a real contender.

Elina Svitolina v Johanna Konta

US Open women’s singles quarter-final, Tuesday September 2

Elina Svitolina looks like a real contender to go all the way at this year’s US Open, disposing of Madison Keys in straight sets in the round of 16. However, in Johanna Konta she will come up against an opponent who has also been in imperious form at Flushing Meadows over the past week, with the Brit seeing off Karolina Pliskova in three sets.

The 24-year-old Ukrainian has never lost to Konta on the WTA tour, but the British number one is a big match player. Konta’s biggest asset is her mental strength, as she showed by fighting back from one set down to win against Pliskova. She will need that strength if she is to make the semi finals.

0.5u - Back Johanna Konta To Win @ +156

Roger Federer v Grigor Dimitrov

US Open men’s singles quarter-final, Tuesday September 2

The narrative is inescapable here. Not so long ago, Grigor Dimitrov was dubbed the new Roger Federer, but his career never quite reached the heights many predicted. Now, the Bulgarian has adapted his game and is looking to shorten the points more often by coming to the net. On Tuesday, he will come up against the man he has been so frequently compared to in the past.

Feder served up something of a masterclass in his straight sets demolition of David Goffin the round of 16. Something has clicked for the world number three in his last two matches and following the retirement of Djokovic the path has been cleared for Federer to at least make the final of the last Grand Slam of the year. Dimitrov has lost all seven of his previous matches against Federer and that trend should continue here.

1.5u - Back Roger Federer 3-0 @ -147
