Serena Williams makes her long-awaited return to Wimbledon after suffering an injury last year and faces Harmony Tan in the opening round. Tennis expert Mike Spector looks over the odds before tipping his best wager.

Serena Williams vs Harmony Tan Wimbledon Odds and Prediction: Will Serena Be Rusty in the Opening Round?

Do you hear Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" blasting? Maybe that is just what I envision the musical backdrop of this match to be, as Serena Williams returns to the All England Club for the first time since exiting in the first round last year with a hamstring injury.

There is no more accomplished woman in the Wimbledon field, or arguably in the history of Women's Tennis, than Serena. She is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, which trails only Martina Navratilova's nine among women in the Open Era. However, in the last calendar year, Serena has played but two doubles matches, so one certainly cannot expect her to be in peak form.

Given the circumstances, what wagers make for the best value in Serena's opening round Wimbledon match against Harmony Tan? Let's dive into my prediction, picks, and the odds for Wimbledon's first-round matchup between Serena Williams and Harmony Tan.

Serena Williams vs. Harmony Tan Prediction

This is the first career head-to-head matchup between Williams and Tan, so we do not have any prior matchups with which to analyze this meeting. However, oddsmakers do not consider Serena in too much danger of an upset, as she is a -330 moneyline favorite (Tan is a +260 underdog). Considering that Serena is 31-1 in her last 32 First Round Grand Slam matches (last year's loss at Wimbledon was her only loss in that span), many may think the -330 odds are like stealing money. However, the odds suggest that Serena has some rust to kick off, as she would likely be upwards of -1000 or higher if she had been playing regularly.

Those that think Williams will cruise to a straight-set victory will likely be more enticed by the -165 odds, which cuts her full match odds in half.

Regardless of who wins, the over/under on the 2.5 sets in this match is heavily juiced to the under, as the under has -250 odds compared to +160 for the over.

With a year off from the court, Serena's play should be slightly erratic from the start, and Tan has won matches in Grand Slams. While Tan is appearing in her first Wimbledon, she has reached the Round of 64 at the Australian and French Open. Thus, we are intrigued by a prop bet on the score after the opening set's first four games.

We hardly expect each player to hold serve in the first four games, so we will throw out the +125 odds for the score to be nodded at two games apiece early. Thus, Serena's odds to lead 3:1 at +165 are enticing, and we will also throw a small wager to hedge at Tan to lead 3:1 at +550 in case it takes Serena some time to get her footing.
