I am very excited to share my first article of the tournament with you all. Sebastian Baez won straight up as a +250 underdog in his grass season debut last week in the Mallorca Open. He dominated Jordan Thompson in two sets, who was a heavy favorite in the matchup. The key to his victory was holding his serve and not allowing Jordan to break a single game on him.
Baez struggled against his next opponent Daniel Altmaier though and ended up losing in three sets. It was a Jekyll and Hyde three-set match between the two players. He got absolutely crushed in the first set losing 6-2 but responded very nicely winning the second set 6-2. Ultimately losing in the third set 6-4 but showed a lot of heart with his finish.

I think this kid will only get stronger on grass and getting him at nearly a pick'em in the first round is an absolute steal. Daniel Taro was also in the Mallorca Open last week and won two matches on grass but met his match against the finalist Roberto Bautista-Agut. He lost in two straight competitive sets but was outdueled by Bautista-Agut in the end, losing 6-4 and in a tie break 7-6.
I think in this next matchup we see a back-and-forth type of match with a possible five-setter on tap. Although, in the end, I see the 21-year-old Baez standing strong and winning this affair.
