Taylor Fritz vs Lorenzo Musetti Wimbledon Odds and Prediction: How Long Will Musetti Last In The First Round?

The Men’s side of the draw at Wimbledon was rocked by shocking news this morning as Matteo Berrettini and Marin Cilic were forced to withdraw after positive COVID-19 tests. While Berrettini was the second-shortest favorite to win the tournament, and Cilic had gained some steam after a deep run at the French Open, that opened up more avenues for other players to challenge the overwhelming favorite, Novak Djokovic.

Could that player be the No. 11 seeded American, Taylor Fritz? Before that happens, Fritz will have to get by Italian Lorenzo Musetti in today’s opening round match. We break down this clash, offer our best value play, and bring you the odds for Fritz vs Musetti.

Taylor Fritz vs Lorenzo Musetti Prediction

Taylor Fritz is looking to build off the momentum of his win at Eastbourne last week when he outlasted fellow American Maxime Cressy 6-2, 6-7, 7-6. The win was Fritz’s second at Eastbourne (also won in 2019) and third overall ATP title, and a win over Musetti today would even his overall career record on grass at 16-16.

Fritz’s title at Eastbourne came on the strength of a powerful serve that is quickly being recognized as one of the most fierce weapons in the Men’s game. He did not have his serve broken once during his run to the title, won 92% of his first serves, and dialed up 17 aces against Cressy.

Thus, Musetti (and whoever else Fritz faces at Wimbledon) will have a bear of a time breaking the American’s serve in this match. The challenge became even greater after Musetti withdrew from his last match at the Queen’s ATP 500 with a groin injury.

Musetti has been tough on highly ranked players, winning two of his six career matches against players who were ranked in the top ten at the time. But Fritz has come a long way since losing three consecutive matches against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Tim van Rijthoven, and Jack Draper. Musetti has never won a match at Wimbledon, but with how frequently Fritz seems to go to tiebreaks (he reminds us of John Isner in that sense), we are taking a flier on the Italian pulling out a victory in at least one set.
