Matteo Berrettini disappointingly had to withdraw from Wimbledon before it started after testing positive for COVID-19, which hurt more considering he was the second-biggest favorite coming into the event. While, winning the Swiss Open would be a small consolation in comparison, it is something Berrettini will be determined to do nonetheless.
This match against Pedro Martinez looks like a mismatch on paper, as Berrettini is on a ten-match winning streak, while Martinez is merely 16-16 this season. Despite Berrettini’s 19-6 record this year, his matches tend to go longer than predicted, as the over of projected games has cashed in 14 of his 24 matches. In addition, seven of Berrettini’s last eight ATP quarterfinal matches against younger opponents have gone over the total match games line. Lastly, he has failed to cover the game spread in each of his last four ATP main draw matches on clay against younger opponents.Â

As we enter the quarterfinal round, No. 1 seed Casper Ruud is a +150 favorite to win the Swiss Open at this point and is just behind Matteo Berrettini’s -400 odds for the biggest moneyline favorite in this round. Ruud is the defending champion of this tournament, and he played like it in his straight-set victory over Jiri Lehecka.Â
Munar is the No. 63 ranked player in the world, and he has reached the quarterfinals for the second time at a tour-level event this season. He is 9-2 in clay-court matches this year, but Ruud is playing at a different level on clay this year, as evidenced by his run to the finals at the French Open. In that major, Ruud beat three seeded opponents and dropped just six sets before losing in straight sets to Rafael Nadal.
