Dominic Thiem vs. Matteo Berrettini Prediction

We may be witnessing a career resurgence at the Swiss Open, as Dominic Thiem is slowly working his way back to the form that saw him be ranked as high as No. 3 in the world previously. Thiem had lost seven consecutive matches entering Gstaad and was nearly bounced from the Swiss Open in the first round by Hugo Gaston, as he saved a match point in their third-set tiebreak. However, he has now beaten Federico Delbonis and Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets while earning his first tour-level semifinal appearance in 14 months.

While Thiem is a somewhat large +150 moneyline underdog against Berrettini, the Austrian should be able to draw on his experience of winning this tournament back in 2015. He has been the better clay-court player than Matteo Berrettini in their careers, as the Italian’s best surface is grass. Thiem also showed well in Bastad last week, pushing the No. 34-ranked Sebastian Baez in his quarterfinal loss.

Berrettini has won 11 consecutive ATP main-draw matches but is still alive after losing the first set last match to Pedro Martinez and trailing 1-5 in the second-set tiebreak with his tournament life on the line.

It might be too much of a “fairy tale ending” for Thiem to shrug off his prior struggles and win this event, but he certainly will push Berrettini. The over is 15-9-1 in the Italian’s 25 matches this season, and we are backing the over of projected games played once again.

Casper Ruud vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas Prediction

Casper Ruud is making a name for himself on the clay surface. He finished runner-up at the French Open and added titles at the Argentina Open and Geneva Open. Of all the players left in this tournament, he is not only the most in-form player, but he also likely prefers the clay the most.

When analyzing how to bet this match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas, one must determine if they are encouraged or discouraged by Ruud’s 4-for-22 conversion rate on break chance points in the last two matches. While he has not dropped a set in defeating Jiri Lehecka and Jaume Munar on back-to-back days, Ruud has also made things more difficult on himself, especially starting the Lehecka match by saving five break points of his own in the first service game.

Ruud is not in danger of losing against No. 4 seed Ramos-Vinolas, especially since the Spaniard is narrowly over .500 this year (17-16) and has 12 clay-court losses. Ramos-Vinolas has won two three-set matches to get to this point, but Ruud will take more advantage of his break point opportunities and make quicker work of him than that.
