ANALYSIS

Andy Murray vs. Mikael Ymer, Stefan Kozlov vs. Jack Draper Prediction and Odds: ATP Citi Open

The ATP Citi Open in Washington D.C. follows what was a very entertaining Atlanta Open last week, and many of those who played in Atlanta have also entered this event in preparation for the U.S. Open.

Andy Murray vs. Mikael Ymer Prediction

Start Time: 4:00 pm ET

Andy Murray has played just one tournament since Wimbledon, when he lost in four sets in the Round of 64 against John Isner. However, somewhat quietly, Murray has recovered from a ranking outside the top 800 four years ago to be the No. 50 ranked player entering this tournament. After two hip surgeries, his days of competing for Grand Slams are likely over, but he is more than capable of making deep runs in smaller tournaments like these.

Murray’s return of serve prowess has dropped considerably over the years, as he has won 14% less of those games since 2016. However, that should not be exposed by Mikael Ymer, the world’s No. 108-ranked player. Ymer has not made it past the Round of 16 in any of his last six tournaments and lost in the qualifying round twice in that span.

The more experienced Murray should take this match in straight sets.

Stefan Kozlov vs. Jack Draper Prediction

Start Time: 5:00 pm ET

Many pundits declared Jack Draper a sleeper among the un-seeded players at Wimbledon this year, given his aggressive play and huge serve. Both of those attributes should play well on the hard court this week.

Draper entered Wimbledon, having beaten highly-ranked Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman in tune-up events, and he also took a set off Novak Djokovic in last year’s head-to-head matchup. He should have no problem getting by Stefan Kozlov in this match, as the American is 4-5 this season but has won just nine of his 32 career matches.

Draper’s -210 odds to win in straight sets are not enough value, so we are more enticed by his -4.5 game spread which pays odds of -110, as we can easily envision a 6-4, 6-3, or better victory.
