Pablo Carreno Busta vs. Matteo Berrettini, Sebastian Baez vs. Nick Kyrgios Prediction and Odds: ATP Montreal
The ATP Montreal Masters (or National Bank Open) got underway yesterday, but rain suspended several matches and postponed some more from yesterday to today. Unfortunately, there is a slight chance that more rain in the forecast will impact today’s proceedings, but the folks in Montreal will do everything in their power to get as many matches in as they can.

Matteo Berrettini is a big wild card in this event, having made the final in Gstaad three weeks ago. However, that was also the only tournament he had played in quite some time, as he never stepped foot on the court at Wimbledon due to COVID. Thus, it is fair to say Berrettini is likely not in the same form as many other players in this field.
Berrettini draws a tricky first-round opponent in Pablo Carreno Busta. These two players’ only head-to-head meeting was at this year’s Australian Open, which Berrettini won in straight sets. However, each of those sets went at least ten games, with the Italian winning the second set in a tiebreak, so clearly, Carreno Busta can push him in this match.
Berrettini is 11-0 in his last 11 ATP main draw matches against older opponents but has also failed to cover the game spread in five of his previous six on hard court against older players. Thus, we are backing the over total number of games and also taking a flier on Carreno Busta getting plus-odds with the game spread.

Nick Kyrgios comes into this tournament in peak form, having just won both the singles and doubles titles at the Citi Open in Washington DC. He made history in multiple ways, becoming the first person to win both the singles and doubles titles at the event in the same year and also the first Australian to win multiple singles titles there after also claiming the title in 2019.
However, those victories come with a caveat: he has played an exorbitant amount of tennis in the last week, while his opponent is rested after losing his first match in Washington in straight sets. Kyrgios is the more talented player and easily beat Baez in their only head-to-head meeting on the hard court at Indian Wells this year, 6-4, 6-0. No matter, given the circumstances of Kyrgios’ busy schedule of late, we expect this match to be more difficult.Â
Kyrgios’ last five matches at the Canadian Open have gone under the total match games line, but this one against Baez will end that streak.Â
Sebastian Baez vs. Nick Kyrgios Pick
- OVER 21.5 Total Games (-125) (Bet $125 to Win $100)
