Marin Cilic vs. Carlos Alcaraz Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz made history earlier this year when he set the record for most wins (75) by any male tennis player in the Open Era in his first 100 matches. That is a testament to his dominance at such a young age and the future that the Spaniard has ahead of him.

Marin Cilic finds himself a sizeable underdog against Alcaraz, even though the two have split their two head-to-head matches. Cilic won in three sets on clay (Alcaraz’s preferred surface) at Estoril in 2021, while Alcaraz evened the series on hard court at Miami in straight sets this year.

Based on Alcaraz’s inexperience in this tournament (he is just 1-1 all-time), we expect Cilic to push the No. 3 seed in this match and take this to a decisive third set. Alcaraz is 11-0 in his last 11 ATP main draw matches against opponents 30 years or older, but Cilic is too savvy and powerful a player to go quietly.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Jannik Sinner Prediction

Felix Auger-Aliassime had his way with Jannik Sinner in their only previous head-to-head meeting, beating him 6-1, 6-2 on the clay earlier this year at the ATP Masters in Spain. So how much will that result impact this match? According to the oddsmakers, not much, as Sinner has been tabbed as a -135 moneyline favorite.

Sinner benefitted from playing less tennis than he should have in his last match, as Miomir Kecmanovic retired with an injury at 1-3 in the second set. Sinner has won seven of his previous eight ATP main draw matches, but if Auger-Aliassime has his head about him in this match, the younger Canadian is the more talented player.

Auger-Aliassime committed 21 unforced errors in his 1-6, 2-6 no-show in front of his home fans at the Canadian Open. However, his game has looked much cleaner and more refined to this point in this tournament, and we expect him to improve his record to 36-19 this season with a victory here.
