Daniil Medvedev vs. Taylor Fritz Prediction

America has waited a long time to crown its next heralded men’s tennis player, and world No. 13 Taylor Fritz was on the precipice of much more stardom had he edged Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Unfortunately, it has been somewhat of a disappointing run since for Fritz, who exited in the Round of 16 in his next two tournaments. Nonetheless, he is 35-13 this year and is just the third American man to make three quarterfinal appearances in ATP Masters 1000 events in a single season.

That is the good news for Fritz. The bad news is that he has had a much more difficult path than Daniil Medvedev to get to this point, as he had to work for wins over Andrey Rublev and Nick Kyrgios. In addition, Americans have not had much success against Medvedev, as he is 26-1 in his last 27 ATP main draw matches against opponents from the United States and has covered the game spread in ten of the previous 11.

Per ShotQuality, Fritz’s forehand has been the best of any player in the field this week. But Fritz is entering dangerous territory if he slugs with Medvedev from the baseline, as the Russian desperately wants to get in a rhythm trading groundstrokes. That is something Fritz may take with him the next time they face each other but will burn him in their first head-to-head meeting.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. John Isner Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas will have to adjust to a completely different style of play from his last match to this match, as John Isner has one of the more lethal serves on tour while he breezed past Diego Schwartzman and his not-so-intimidating serve 6-3, 6-3 last round.

Tsitsipas had split four head-to-head meetings with Schwartzman leading into the match, but this victory looked like one of the Greek’s most straightforward in the rivalry. He had 14 looks at breakpoints (converted five) and walked off the court a victor in a little over an hour.

When Tsitsipas faces John Isner, one thing is certain: he will not get 14 break-point opportunities. Isner has been broken just three times in nine sets so far in Cincinnati, and in true Isner form, six of the nine sets went to tiebreaks.

Tsitsipas has won four consecutive matches against Isner, with three coming on hard courts. His victory over Isner here two years ago was in straight sets with two wins in tiebreaks, and with how frequently Isner’s sets end up in tiebreaks, we have to back the over on the number of total games played in this match.
