Peter Gojowczyk has had an up-and-down season, as evidenced by his 3-12 record. However, the German is an extremely dangerous hard-court player and one that is not afraid of the big stage. Gojowczyk made it all the way to the fourth round of the U.S. Open last year, where he lost a heartbreaking five-set match to now world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz.

He takes on last year's Winston Salem champion, Ilya Ivashka, who cruised to the title after dropping only one set (to Marin Cilic) in his six matches. However, Gojowczyk won their only ATP head-to-head matchup, beating Ivashka in three sets in Stuttgart in 2021. Ivashka won a hard-court match in a qualifying event in 2019 against Gojowczyk, but the German was even competitive in that match, pushing it to three sets. 

Ivashka is 9-0 in his last nine ATP main draw matches against older opponents and has covered the game spread in each of his previous five at Winston-Salem. However, we expect Gojowczyk to be competitive in this match and continue to work back to good form ahead of the U.S. Open.

Max Cressy vs. James Duckworth Prediction

James Duckworth has been an afterthought after battling injuries for much of the year's first half. However, less than a year ago, he was a top-50 ranked player and is slowly working his way back to that form. A win over Max Cressy would be the validation he needs to prove he can be that player again.

This is the first-ever meeting between these two players, so Duckworth must adapt quickly to Cressy's unusual serve-and-volley style. Duckworth served well in his first-round victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis, as he won 82% of the points on his first serve and allowed his opponent only four break-point opportunities in three sets. However, he did not return well either, as Kokkinakis won a whopping 91% of his first-serve points.

There are not likely to be many breaks of serve in this match, which has us liking the over on total games as we expect at least one set to go to a tiebreak. In addition, nine of Duckworth's last ten ATP main draw matches have gone over the projected games line.
