This is the second ever meeting between Cressy and Mannarino, as the American won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 on hard courts in Sydney earlier this year. Cressy has had a fantastic season, with the pinnacle being his first ATP singles title in Newport.
Cressy was pushed in his last match, a three-set thriller where he came back after losing the first set against Lorenzo Sonego. He earned the victory because of his dominant serve, winning 74% of his service points, but more importantly, facing just one break point all match.
Mannarino showed his hard-court dominance in yesterday’s win over Ramos, his fifth hard-court victory over him in his career. Mannarino looked at three break points in two sets in his only match against Cressy but failed to convert any. Conversely, Cressy went ⅔ on his break point chances. We expect dominant service games to be the story in this match once again.
Mannarino has had difficulty reaching the semifinals or later of tournaments of late. He is just 1-8in his last nine ATP quarterfinal matches in the United States and has failed to cover the game spread in seven of his previous eight against right-handed opponents. Mannarino’s only chance today is to seemingly get sets to tiebreakers and edge Cressy there, so the American is a worthy favorite.

In the only quarterfinal match between two seeded opponents, No. 10 seed Benjamin Bonzi faces the No. 2 seed Botic van de Zandschulp. A lot is riding on this match for these two players, as each has the talent to win three more matches here and claim their first-ever ATP titles. Whichever player handles the nerves better on this stage should go on to victory.
Bonzi has served fantastically through his first two straight-set wins and has won 83% and 84% of his first serve points thus far. However, he has shown cracks in the armor, getting broken in each match and three times total in four sets. Similarly, van de Zandschulp has also been broken three times in two straight-set victories, but the glaring difference is his 61% first serve percentage and his much lower 70% success rate on first serve points in his last victory compared to Bonzi.
Botic knows how to start strong, as he has won the first set in four consecutive ATP quarterfinal matches. That should help ease his nerves and put pressure on Bonzi, but the underdog will push back in this match and help the over cash for the eighth consecutive time against a right-handed opponent in an ATP main draw match.
