ATP Winston-Salem Semifinal Predictions: Adrian Mannarino vs. Botic van de Zandschulp, Huesler vs. Djere
Friday brings us two entertaining semifinal matches from the ATP Winston-Salem. No. 2 seed Botic van de Zandschulp is the lone seeded player remaining of the four, as Thursday’s quarterfinal matches followed the same trend that has been the theme for much of the tournament with upsets galore. Three of Thursday’s quarterfinal matches were won by underdogs. Will that trend continue today?

Perhaps yesterday’s breakthrough against Max Cressy was what Adrian Mannarino needed to win this tournament, as he had been 1-8 in his previous nine ATP quarterfinal matches on United States soil. Mannarino won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, and showed his versatility by being able to handle a player with as unique of a skill-set as Cressy. The American was a great opponent for Mannarino to face in preparation for van de Zandschulp, as they were two of the biggest servers in the tournament. Mannarino broke Cressy’s serve twice yesterday, and it was his third consecutive victory over a seeded opponent.
van de Zandschulp will be motivated in this match, as he would move into the top 20 in the world rankings if he went on to win this tournament. He has also yet to win a tour title, and with the way, the rest of the field has shaken out, it would seem this is his best chance.
Botic won the only head-to-head meeting against Mannarino 6-4, 6-3 on the hard courts in Melbourne earlier this year, as he had a whopping 322 serve rating in that match and hit eight aces to Mannarino’s none. His return rating was also a 175 compared to Mannarino’s 57, and those stats are too juicy to ignore.
Mannarino has won the first set in each of his last six ATP main draw matches, but if he does here, van de Zandschulp should have enough to overcome that. But because of that, we will take the over on the number of total games.

Not all upsets are created equal. Marc-Andrea Huesler made a statement in his victory over Jack Draper last round, which lasted one hour and 20 minutes, and pronounced that he means business in his second-ever ATP semifinal. Huesler is now looking to make history as the first-ever qualifier to win this event, as he was already the fourth-ever player to break through to the semifinals.
Absolutely nothing has come easy for Laslo Djere in this tournament, as he has needed three sets in all of his four victories to this point. That is why each of his last six ATP main draw matches has gone over the total games line. Moreover, Semifinal rounds have not been kind to him from a betting perspective, as he has failed to cover the game spread in four of his last five such matches.
Djere won the only head-to-head meeting between these two, but Huesler’s historic run has him brimming with confidence, and we will back his moneyline odds today.
