Cameron Norrie vs. Holger Rune Prediction
No. 28 seed Holger Rune made his first quarterfinal appearance at a Grand Slam at the French Open earlier this year, and now the stars might be aligning for another such deep run. Rune was the beneficiary of John Isner’s withdrawal with a wrist injury, as oddsmakers had Rune as a slight underdog in that match.
He comes in with “big match experience,” having faced Novak Djokovic at Arthur Ashe Stadium before. While he appears to have recovered from a seven-match losing streak that he snapped at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., he still looks to be in over his head against the No. 7 seed Cameron Norrie.
Norrie has won both head-to-head matchups against Rune, both coming this season. The most recent matchup was on hard court at Cincinnati, while the other was on clay in Lyon. Both matches went three sets, and the Cincinnati win, in particular, is part of Norrie’s impressive 21-3 record in his last 24 main draw matches in the United States.
Norrie has also won the first set in seven of his last eight Grand Slam main draw matches, and we expect him to start similarly fast here. However, Rune is playing with more confidence despite being just 19-20 this season, so we expect him to win at least one set as well.

Diego Schwartzman vs. Frances Tiafoe Prediction
No. 22 seed Frances Tiafoe is one of the most exciting players on tour, and he will be sure to have the American crowd revved up for this match. Though he has won both matches in straight sets to this point, three of them went to tiebreaks, and one was a 7-5 victory. Thus, he does not make anything easy, and things do not project to get easier against his most formidable opponent to date, No. 14 seed Diego Schwartzman.
Like with Rune, Schwartzman was the beneficiary of a player retiring with injury, as he was two sets to one down in his first match before Jack Sock decided he could not go on longer. Schwartzman needs to find a more consistent serve for this match, as he landed just 65% of his first serves in his last match against Alexei Popyrin, with nine double faults to boot.
Such serving problems will be an issue against Tiafoe, who is 9-1 in his last ten ATP main draw matches in the United States against opponents 30 years or older. However, he has failed to cover the game spread in seven of the last eight such matches, so we expect the total number of games to exceed the total.
