Daniil Medvedev vs. Nick Kyrgios Prediction

Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev meet for the third time this year, as the pair have split those two head-to-head meetings. However, one player has a 3-1 edge in this head-to-head series, and it is not the No. 1 player in the world as you would think.

Kyrgios has had success against Medvedev, though he had to work hard with a straight-set victory that required wins in two tiebreaks and a grueling three-set victory on clay in Rome in 2019. He also has a better winning percentage (77.5%) than does Medvedev this year (73.9%), as this year has inarguably been the best of his career. However, matches at Grand Slams are a different animal, and Medvedev’s lone win in this series was at the Australian Open this year in four sets in Kyrgios’ backyard.

Medvedev is clearly comfortable at this tournament, entering on a ten-match winning streak at Flushing Meadows. Moreover, Kyrgios has failed to cover the game spread in any of his last five ATP fourth-round matches against right-handed opponents, so Medvedev is a rightful favorite despite what the head-to-head numbers say.

Pablo Carreno Busta vs. Karen Khachanov Prediction

The betting odds are interesting in this one, as Pablo Carreno Busta is a -235 moneyline favorite despite losing four of the five head-to-head matches against Karen Khachanov since 2018. And it is not like the surface plays a significant factor in these odds, as Khachanov has won all three matches on hard court in that span, all in straight sets, and he covered the game spread in all those as well.

However, oddsmakers are buying into the run that Pablo Carreno Busta is on, starting with his title in Montreal and having won nine of his last ten ATP main draw matches. Khachanov has also been living on the edge lately, losing the first set in seven of his previous eight completed ATP main draw matches in the United States. Thus, we expect Carreno Busta to start strong and even win the first set in a low number of games.
