Matteo Berrettini vs. Casper Ruud Prediction
At first glance, Matteo Berrettini is a surprising underdog to Casper Ruud, despite playing the No. 5 seed as the No. 13 seed, given his success in Grand Slams. Berrettini needed five sets to beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, but nonetheless, he is through to his fifth consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.
By contrast, Ruud is an impressive 42-15 this year and has the motivation of moving up in the world rankings entering this match. If Ruud were to beat Berrettini, he would jump to No. 2 in the world and would be No. 1 if he wins the whole tournament. But will he be able to box all that out and focus on the task at hand?
Ruud has won three tour-level titles this year and reached his first-ever Grand Slam final at the French Open earlier this year. But we respect Berrettini’s experience too much and expect him to win his 11th consecutive Grand Slam main draw match against younger opponents.
Matteo Berrettini vs. Casper Ruud Pick
PICK: Matteo Berrettini ML (-105) (Bet $105 to win $100)

Nick Kyrgios vs. Karen Khachanov Prediction
Entering Monday’s play, primarily because he has a match in hand on most of the field, Nick Kyrgios became the favorite to win the U.S. Open with +240 odds at DraftKings. With his impressive four-set win over world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev on Sunday, Kyrgios improved to 26-5 since the start of June, which is the most wins of any player on the ATP tour.
Kyrgios is familiar with his next opponent, No. 27 seed Karen Khachanov, as the two have met twice before. Kyrgios won a thrilling five-set match at the 2020 Australian Open, as each of the final four sets went to a tiebreak. Khachanov won the first meeting in 2019 in Cincinnati, a three-set affair that saw two sets also go to a tiebreak.
Thus, conventional wisdom would say we are in for another marathon, given how even these two players seem to be and how often they go to tiebreaks. However, there is no denying how much of a different player Kyrgios is at this point. He is at least 15 pounds lighter than when he faced Khachanov last, as he has emphasized his diet and fitness. As a result, Kyrgios should win this one more easily, but we still do not see it as a straight-set victory.
Nick Kyrgios vs. Karen Khachanov Pick
PICK: Nick Kyrgios to win 3 Sets to 1 (+280) (Bet $100 to win $280)
