Andrey Rublev’s and Frances Tiafoe’s two Round of 16 were vastly different. Rublev won a relatively stress-free straight-set match against Cameron Norrie, a match that lacked any real drama or pressure moments. In fact, much of the drama was removed from the match when the two players endured a 24-minute delay for the roof to be closed when inclement weather rolled in.

Meanwhile, Frances Tiafoe is coming off an emotionally-filled four-set victory over No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal, as he became just the third American to beat Nadal at a Grand Slam event, joining Andy Roddick and James Blake.

This is Tiafoe’s second Grand Slam quarterfinal, which followed the third top-five win of his career. On the other side, Rublev has made five quarterfinals at majors but is looking to get over the hump here, as he is 0-for-5.

Tiafoe won a thrilling five-set match against Rublev in last year’s U.S. Open, while Rublev returned the favor with a much tidier straight-set victory at Indian Wells this year. We worry about the concentration Tiafoe will show after one of the most significant victories of his career. At the same time, Rublev’s experience in this round will help him get the “monkey off his back” and get through to his first Grand Slam semifinal.

Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Prediction

This one seems too easy, as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are both coming off marathon five-set matches, with 46 and 49 games played, respectively. Sinner has won three of his previous six U.S. Open matches in five sets, and the underdog has won the last three matches head-to-head between these two, which again figures to help the over in this case. If that was not enough, the over has cashed in each of the last three ATP main draw matches between these two highly ranked players.

Sinner and Alcaraz have met on every surface in their last three matches, from the hard courts in Paris, the grass at Wimbledon, and clay at Umag. But, no matter the surface, these two tend to make each other work, which is exactly what we predict will happen here.
