Iga Swiatek vs. Jessica Pegula Prediction
Iga Swiatek has shown why she is the number one player on WTA Tour this year. At one point I felt she wasn't going to lose. She really looked unstoppable at one point. She struggled for a little bit, but she looks like has found her game at the US Open. She even complained before the tournament about the balls they were using. But it really hasn't shown to be a problem for her. Now she faces the American Jessica Pegula. Pegula is having a pretty good tournament so far. Her serve has been still off a little bit. But her return game has really helped her a lot in this tournament. She is playing at a really high level.
This matchup I really feel will go as it went in Miami this year. Swiatek really dominated Pegula in that matchup. These two have played two matches this year one on hardcourt and one on clay. The matches haven't been close at all either. Swiatek really dominated her and Pegula didn't even come close in any of those matchups. I can see the same thing happening here. Swiatek has elevated her game to the next level and I feel Pegula still a couple of years to get there.
This matchup will really depend on how Pegula does with her first serve. Her consistency has been way off in her career. When she gets this far in the tournament she usually folds. That's why I'm backing Iga Swiatek here. I see Swiatek hitting all the right shots to really frustrate the American. Iga will take this match 2-0 in dominating fashion to advance to her first US Open Semifinals.
