Atletico Madrid vs Manchester City Tips

Betting Tip: Over 4.5 Asian Cards

Manchester City make the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano in the Spanish Capital and will be hoping they can get the job done and seal their place in the semi-final. It was a fiery clash at the Etihad in the first leg as the ‘Citizens’ were able to edge a close encounter by a single goal. But the final 20 minutes really saw things, for want of a better phrase, kick-off.

Diego Simeone’s men were up to their old tricks and seeking to gain any advantage they possibly could. The first leg didn’t see a card until, unsurprisingly, Jack Grealish entered the field in the 68th minute and he was consistently targeted. His first involvement saw an incoming challenge from Rodrigo de Paul which resulted in a yellow card for the Atleti midfielder and a further four cards were shown within a seven-minute spell.

Three of the host's four home Champions League games season have witnessed at least five cards. With Jack Grealish likely to start and the Spanish outfit doing whatever they can to avoid conceding, I’d expect German referee Daniel Siebert to be dishing out quite a few cards for both sides here.

Betting Tip: Man City Win to Nil

The visitors followed up their first-leg win by earning a 2-2 draw in a titanic Premier League clash with Liverpool at the weekend. Pep Guardiola will have been slightly disappointed his side didn’t take all three points but he’ll be exceptionally happy with the performance and the chances they were able to create.

On the flip side, Atletico Madrid were horrendous once again and went down 1-0 away to Mallorca. They struggled to create chances and worryingly, looked out of ideas, were toothless in the attacking department and managed just a single shot on target. Simeone’s side didn’t register a single shot at the Etihad and it’d be surprising to see them suddenly change tactics from their traditional ‘soak up pressure and snatch a winner’ strategy.

Getting 3.00 on the ‘Blues’ to find a way to secure a fifth straight UEFA knockout away win and keeping a clean sheet in the process certainly makes appeal. Especially considering Manchester City are conceding an average of just 2.5 shots on target per away Champions League game this season.
