Susan Collins Maine Senate 2026

Maine Senate Odds: Susan Collins Still Trails, Will She Finally be Replaced After 30 Years by Troy Jackson?

Susan Collins is once again fighting for her political life in Maine, with Democratic challenger Troy Jackson still leading the prediction market but the race tightening considerably entering the final days. Collins has survived repeated attempts to end one of the longest Senate careers in the country, and recent polling suggests the five-term Republican remains firmly within striking distance. Can she escape another difficult reelection battle, or will Jackson finally end her three-decade run in Washington?

Is Susan Collins on Track to Be Replaced After Nearly 30 Years in Maine Senate Race?

Jackson remains ahead in the latest prediction market at 61%, while Collins has climbed back to 39%. The accompanying margin forecast has Democrats ahead by only 1.9 points, reinforcing how little separation remains entering November 3.

The market has moved repeatedly throughout the year. Jackson climbed near the 70% range during portions of the campaign, but Collins has continued to recover whenever the race appeared to be slipping away and now enters the final stretch with a realistic path to another term.

Maine Senate Odds Breakdown

Troy Jackson: 61% Chance

Jackson maintains the larger share of the market and has led most recent polling, but his advantage has remained narrow. The latest surveys have generally shown him ahead by roughly two points or produced an outright tie between the candidates.

That represents a strong position for a Democrat challenging such an established incumbent, but it has not created meaningful separation. Jackson remains below 50% in several recent surveys, leaving a small but potentially decisive group of voters still capable of changing the outcome.

Susan Collins: 39% Chance

Collins sits at 39% despite polling much closer to Jackson than the prediction-market gap initially suggests. Her support has remained remarkably durable during a race in which Democrats have again made defeating her a major national priority.

That dynamic is hardly unfamiliar. Collins has represented Maine in the Senate since 1997 and has repeatedly built winning coalitions that include Republicans, independents and voters who support Democrats elsewhere on the ballot.

Susan Collins Has Been Here Before

Collins has spent much of her Senate career entering reelection cycles under intense pressure. Her moderate reputation and willingness to break with her party on selected issues have simultaneously helped her attract crossover voters and made her a recurring Democratic target.

The clearest example came in 2020. Democrats poured enormous resources into defeating her, and the race was widely viewed as one of the country's major Senate battlegrounds, yet Collins ultimately won by nine points and carried 14 of Maine's 16 counties.

That history is especially relevant because polling again shows a close contest. Collins has previously demonstrated an ability to outperform expectations by winning voters who do not consistently support Republican candidates in other statewide races.

Why Troy Jackson Could Finally End Collins' Run

Jackson enters the final week with something previous Collins challengers ultimately lacked: a consistent polling advantage this late in the race. He has led most October surveys, even if the margin has generally remained within only a few points.

His campaign has focused heavily on tying Collins to the national Republican majority while arguing that her bipartisan reputation no longer matches her voting record. Jackson has also emphasized economic issues affecting rural and working-class Mainers, territory that could prove important against a senator whose longevity has traditionally depended on broad geographic support.

Maine's broader political environment also provides Democrats with an opening. The state backed the Democratic presidential ticket by nearly seven points in 2024, meaning Collins again needs significant crossover support to outperform the Republican baseline.

Why Collins Continues to Survive

Collins' greatest strength remains the political identity she has built over nearly 30 years. She is not treated by many Maine voters exactly like a generic national Republican, which has repeatedly allowed her to survive in a state that often votes Democratic at the presidential level.

Her seniority also gives her a tangible argument for reelection. Collins chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee and has centered much of her campaign on her ability to direct federal funding toward Maine, particularly infrastructure, health care and rural projects.

Recent polling suggests that message continues to resonate with enough voters to prevent Jackson from pulling away. Even surveys showing Jackson ahead generally place Collins only a few points behind, leaving the race well within the range where turnout and late-deciding independents could matter.

Maine Senate Polling Remains Nearly Even

The polling picture is tighter than the 61%-39% prediction market. The current average places Jackson at 48.7% and Collins at 47.5%, a difference of only 1.2 points.

Recent surveys reinforce that uncertainty. Marist showed Jackson ahead 49%-47%, while both Trafalgar and Fox News produced 47%-47% or 49%-49% ties during the second half of October.

Those numbers make Maine one of the clearest examples of a race where prediction-market pricing and polling tell slightly different stories. Traders continue to give Jackson the stronger position, but voters surveyed over the final weeks have produced almost no meaningful separation.

Maine Senate Election Outlook

Jackson enters the final days with the prediction-market advantage and a narrow polling lead, but Collins remains considerably closer than she was during parts of the campaign. Her market recovery fits a familiar pattern for a senator who has repeatedly faced major national efforts to remove her and consistently found enough crossover support to survive.

The question is whether that formula still works after nearly three decades in office. Jackson is closer than most previous challengers this late in the cycle, while Collins is again attempting to prove that her personal brand in Maine can outlast the national political environment surrounding her party.
