The heat is on again at Old Trafford as United continue to falter.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been reinstated as favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post at a best price of 2/1.
As short as 1/8 back at the start of October, the 55-year-old drifted out to 12/1 a month later after a string of more promising results. Beating Everton and Bournemouth before a 2-1 away win against Juventus in the Champions League saw him tumble down the market.
Zinedine Zidane, who was odds-on to replace Mourinho earlier this month, remains favourite to take over. The best price on the Frenchman, who has attracted 28% of bets in the last week on this market, is currently 2/1.
Following him in the market are Antonio Conte (10/1) and Mauricio Pochettino (12/1), both of whom were heavily linked to the Real Madrid job before they appointed Santiago Solari permanently. More speculative shouts include former players Michael Carrick (16/1) and Ryan Giggs (25/1).
The 'Special One' is still battling on at Old Trafford, despite his side slumping to an unsatisfactory 2-2 draw with Southampton at the weekend and sitting 8th in the league. Having scrapped with players and the press already this week, anything but a win against Arsenal will see pressure inevitably mount again.
The sacking of Mark Hughes by Southampton following that draw saw Mourinho return to the top of the market as the man bookies predict will be the next to go in the Premier League.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Pressure on Mourinho to go next, certainly from a bookies’ point of view, appeared to have died down for a while.
“However, the floodgates have opened again and over the past week a whopping 49% of all bets have backed the Portuguese boss to go next.”
