He looks primed for a stiffer stamina test based on that run, though, so preference is for VIRGO. The Sea The Stars gelding was not disgraced on his most recent run on the all-weather in January and he should not be dismissed. Dogged is another who merits consideration.

KILLYBEGS WARRIOR showed buckets of promise when scoring over this trip at Newmarket on his racecourse debut last month. He does not look set to stop there and, as a half-brother to classy miler Ventura Knight, further progression could be on the cards. Lord Uhtred kept on well when getting up for third on his debut over 6f at Yarmouth so is entitled to improve, along with Hernan Cortes on his return to turf.

A 6lb penalty does not look set to stop the hat-trick seeking SPANGLED MAC. He won with plenty in hand on his latest outing at Yarmouth after scoring off the same mark on the all-weather prior to that and he could make his presence felt once more. Alethiometer is the obvious threat having gone up just 3lb for her latest win at Doncaster, while Sweet Mist's rating seems to have fallen to a more workable mark.

BOUDICA BAY won with plenty in hand despite an awkward start here last month and a 4lb rise looks manageable as she looks to make it three wins in her last four. Amor De Mi Vida arrives in a similar vein of form and is somewhat unlucky not to be coming in here on a hat-trick. No Guts No Glory is interesting on her handicap debut as well, while Second Collection is another to note.

This looks like a perfect opportunity for SHAARA to get back on track, having disappointed on her return in a Group 3 at Newbury in April. Given plenty of time since that effort, the daughter of Shamardal is likely to appreciate the drop in grade and could make it two wins in three career outings. Shampion wasn't beaten far on her debut at Lingfield last December and she is likely to be thereabouts, alongside newcomer Invisible Friend.

A taking winner on his handicap debut at Newmarket last month, GIOVANNI BAGLIONE looks capable of handling an 8lb rise, with the form of that race having been franked by the runner-up since. Dion Baker ran well for second on his handicap bow at Carlisle, while Snapcracklepop has had a great season so far and a second win in three starts may not be out of the question.
