If you thought the United States men’s Olympic basketball dominated just wait until you hear what the United States women have done in the sport. The United States Women’s National Basketball Team is by far the most successful in international women’s basketball history. They have won eight out of ten Olympic tournaments. First appearing in the summer games in 1976. They are on a run of six straight gold medals starting from 1996, looking to extend that run in these 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It also won eight of the last eleven World Cups, including the last three, and ten titles overall since 1953. The team is currently ranked first in the FIBA World Rankings.

Seeking a seventh straight gold medal, the USA Women’s side dominated Australia in its quarterfinal matchup 79-55. Entering the Olympic tournament this year, Team USA has an astounding 66-3 record in the Olympic games. With their win against Australia, they extended their Olympic games winning streak to 53 straight. They have not lost an Olympic game since 1992. In the latest victory against Australia, Breanna Stewart scored 20 of her 23 points in the first half as Team USA built a 48-27 halftime lead. Brittney Griner added 15 points and A’ja Wilson scored 10.

Olympic Women’s Basketball: USA vs. Serbia Odds

Veteran guards Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are trying to become the first women’s basketball players to win five Olympic gold medals. Despite the dominating score line’s, the women’s national team has been getting out to slow starts of late. All of those tuned to victories but they are playing with fire.

Serbia is ranked 8th in the FIBA World Rankings. Team USA and Serbia met in 2016 in the preliminary round of the Rio Olympics with the USA earning a 110-84 win. The last time these two sides squared off Team USA won 88-69. Lead by A’ja Wilson with 16 points and seven rebounds and 15 points from Skylar Diggins-Smith at the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in February 2020.

Team USA faces Serbia who won the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Serbia defeated China in the quarterfinals behind an explosive fourth quarter, outscoring China 28-12. The Serbian women will need to do that and more if they hope to take down the giants that are the USA Women’s National Basketball Team in Tokyo.
