A gold medal winner in the 2015 International Kadyrov Tournament held in Russia, Akhmedov turned professional shortly thereafter and rattled off seven straight wins before running into Mario Barrios in September 2019.
Losing that fight via unanimous decision, a fight that was for the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight title, Akhmedov has rallied since winning two straight, both of which came inside the distance. Despite having a few professional fights by almost half, Akhmedov may actually be the more tested fighter as his fight history is filled with established guys; starting with Barrios.
