Just over a week until the NFL regular season gets underway and the NFL MVP betting market has been producing some interesting trends.
As is to be expected, favorite Patrick Mahomes has been the most backed option over the last month with 26.67% of bettors behind him. At +400, his odds imply a 20% chance he wins the award.
The second most backed name on the list is a little bit more of a shock. Over the last month, 12.22% of NFL MVP bets have been on Cam Newton, who wasn’t even on a roster as of late June.
Newton, at +3200, has the 11th-shortest odds available, sandwiched between Aaron Rodgers (+3000) and Jimmy Garoppolo (+4000). He won the award in 2015.
Dak Prescott (+1400) and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson (+700) are third on the list with 10% of bettors going to the window to back them.
Peyton Manning is the last player to win the award in back-to-back years, doing so in 2008 and 2009. Adrian Peterson (2012) is the last non-QB to win MVP.
