San Francisco 49ers vs Tennessee Titans Odds, Betting Preview, and Picks

The San Francisco 49ers continued their climb into contention with a comfortable win over the Atlanta Falcons at Levi’s Stadium. Next up for Kyle Shanahan’s side is a much tougher contest against the Tennessee Titans, who will be keen to get back on track after a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Books tip this game with San Francisco on the road, but Tennessee will fancy its chances even if the markets don’t. It’s a must-win game for both these teams and the regular season enters the home stretch.

San Francisco 49ers Betting Preview

Jimmy Garoppolo and the Niners made short work of the Falcons to the delight of Niners fans. Garoppolo was near flawless as he lifted the Niners to the 31-13 win and to an 8-6-0 record on the season that keeps San Francisco’s playoff hopes alive.

Garoppolo went 18 of 23 for 235 yards and one touchdown. But it was the run game that powered the Niners to victory mainly. Deebo Samuel and Jeff Wilson Jr. combined for 139 yards rushing and a touchdown apiece while Kyle Juszczyk added a third rushing score.

The Niners' defense came out in full force and controlled the tempo of the game. Matt Ryan was under constant pressure and completed just 19 of 32 passing attempts for 213 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked three times and had a fumble for a loss. Nick Bosa, Arden Key, and Samson Ebukam got to Ryan on numerous occasions, disrupting the Falcons' offense from finding any rhythm.

Overall, the Niners go into Week 16 with solid form. They’ve won and covered six of their last eight games. In five of those, they’ve scored 30-plus points. In their last six games, the Niners are 5-1 SU and ATS --the only hiccup was a 30-23 loss to the Seahawks, which they very narrowly missed as San Francisco’s final drive faltered at the goal line. Had the Niners converted on a fourth down and scored the game-tying touchdown, it might have been a different story.

Tennessee Titans Betting Preview

Ryan Tannehill and company succumbed to their third loss in the last four games, losing 19-13 to the Steelers. The Titans started brightly and took the 13-3 lead into halftime, but Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers came alive in the second half. The Steelers put up 16 unanswered points in the last two quarters to clinch the victory. After the game, a dejected and confused Tannehill fielded questions from reporters.

Turnovers, penalties, and sloppy play played a big part in the defeat. Coach Mike Vrabel alluded to those in his post-game presser. “The turnovers, we have to hold the ball in much more regard. Obviously, you can’t do that and think you are going to win.”

Kevin Byard wasn’t quite so pragmatic about it as he raved against the officiating in his post-game comments, while Ryan Tannehill seemed lost for ideas and a little bit low in confidence.

Lookahead lines projected Tennessee as the 1-point home chalk for this highly anticipated showdown with San Francisco before Week 15. However, after the Niners won and the Titans lost, the market flipped entirely. Bookmakers went to press with the Niners as the field goal favorites on the road. The total reopened at 44.5 points, up from a 43.5 point lookahead line.

Since markets opened on Sunday, the line has been bet up to Niners -3.5 with most shops. Conversely, the total has held firm on 44.5 points.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Tennessee Titans Betting Predictions and Picks

Even though markets are writing off the Titans, they are tough competitors. They’re not a side that quits or goes away quietly. Since Derrick Henry’s injury, the Titans have enjoyed mixed fortunes. They’ve also recorded some big wins, including an eyebrow-raising win over the Los Angeles Rams on the road.

Tannehill was further short-changed last weekend with the absence of AJ Brown. The wide receiver is expected to return this week, which should bolster Tennessee’s offense as they look to bounce back at the expense of the Niners.

That said, the Niners have form, confidence, and momentum going into this game. So, it’s easy to understand why they’re the favorites to win straight up and why, simultaneously, they’re spotting the Titans 3.5 points on the NFL odds board.

Pick: 49ers -3.5
