Michigan vs. Buffalo Prediction: Can Bulls Upset Wolverines on Opening Night?

The Buffalo Bulls are projected to win the Mid-American this year. This is no easy game for Michigan as they welcome the Bulls to their home court to debut the 2021-2022 season.

Michigan also lost plenty of talent from last season but will also return just as much talent, if not more.

No longer will we see Franz Wagner, Mike Smith, or Isaiah Livers. But big man Hunter Dickinson is back along with Eli Brooks, Brandon Jones and Terrance Williams. We’ll also see a ton of top-tier freshmen that can break out any minute this season, just like Dickinson last season.

Here are our picks and predictions for the Buffalo vs Michigan game on Wednesday, November 10.

Buffalo vs. Michigan Prediction

Michigan didn’t go heavy in the transfer portal. Instead, they went out and got one of the best freshman recruiting classes in America. The Wolverines brought in six freshmen and at this time, I’d think four can be of real impact right away.

DeVante Jones was the only transfer added to the Wolverines roster this season. He’s a former Coastal Carolina guard that scored over 19 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He’s also capable of getting a couple of steals per game and will need to lead a bunch of freshmen this season along with Eli Brooks, who is the other redshirt senior on this squad.

As of now, it looks like Caleb Houstan will be the lone freshman starter for this bunch but the second unit will be filled with insane potential and young rising stars that will soon make an NBA roster.

However, when you look at Buffalo, they’ve got a team filled with experience, something Michigan really doesn’t have much of. The Bulls lost key players like Jayvon Graves and David Nickelberry, but kept everyone else while adding a couple of transfers.

One transfer in particular, Maceo Jack, out of George Washington, will likely start. He only scored 6.9 points per game at George Washington but there’s plenty of hype around what he can do at Buffalo.

Off the bench, Buffalo will still have so much experience with three redshirt seniors and  Ty Perry, a Fordham transfer that scored 7.5 points per game last season.

Josh Mballa will be crucial on the defensive end for Buffalo and they’ll need plenty of defense with an up-tempo style of play on the offensive end. There’s really so much potential with Buffalo this year. They’ve also got a three-star freshman in Kuluel Mading that can become a real impactful player this season.

With that, I’ll play Buffalo at +15.5 in this game. If this was March Madness, the line would not look like this. And in reality, this is a potential March Madness game in March.
