Norfolk State travels to Scott Stadium on Friday night for its first-ever meeting with No. 25 Virginia. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on ACC Network Extra, with the Cavaliers favored by 44.5 points after getting an open week following their dominant season debut.
Virginia enters with a clear advantage on both lines of scrimmage and should dictate the game from the opening possessions. The more interesting question is whether Norfolk State can contribute enough points to push a 54.5 total Over.

Norfolk State is 1-1 after losing 31-10 at Old Dominion last Saturday. The Spartans finished with only 220 total yards, including 94 passing, and committed three turnovers. Norfolk State vs. Virginia Line Movement and Betting Splits
Virginia opened around -43.5 before reaching -44.5, while the total has increased from approximately 53.5 to 54.5. Both moves reflect strong support for a dominant Cavaliers performance and more overall scoring.
Virginia has 78% of spread bets and 96% of the money, while the Over has 77% of tickets and 83% of the handle. The Under is clearly the contrarian position rather than a sharp-money play, but the public-driven increase has created a better number.

Virginia's opener showed exactly why a huge Cavaliers victory does not necessarily require a huge total. Tony Elliott's team ran the football 53 times and held possession for more than 38 minutes against NC State, repeatedly producing long, methodical drives rather than relying exclusively on quick scores.
No possession illustrated that better than Virginia's fourth-quarter touchdown march. The Cavaliers went 75 yards in 23 plays and drained 12:15 off the clock. A favorite capable of consuming that much time while comfortably ahead is an ideal profile for an Under in a major mismatch.
Beau Pribula makes that approach even more effective. He threw for 155 yards against NC State but led Virginia with 110 rushing yards, allowing the Cavaliers to control the game without needing a high-volume passing attack. Xavier Brown and the rest of the backfield give Virginia enough depth to maintain that formula once backups begin rotating.
Norfolk State's offense is unlikely to force the Cavaliers away from it. The Spartans scored only 10 points at Old Dominion and needed an interception to create their lone touchdown drive. Their 220 total yards included just 94 through the air, and three turnovers repeatedly put the defense in difficult situations.
Virginia's defense presents a much more difficult assignment. The Cavaliers held NC State to 10 first downs, 76 rushing yards and 92 passing yards while keeping the Wolfpack scoreless on its first eight possessions. Norfolk State already struggled against one FBS defense and now faces a ranked opponent coming off an extra week of preparation.
The concern is Virginia simply scoring 50-plus by itself. The Cavaliers are talented enough to do that, and Norfolk State's turnovers could create short fields. But Elliott also has every incentive to shorten the second half, protect Pribula and get younger players meaningful work once the outcome is settled.
A 42-7 or 45-7 type of result is still a complete blowout while staying below 54.5. With Norfolk State unlikely to produce multiple sustained touchdown drives, the Under essentially asks Virginia not to spend four quarters chasing points it will not need.

The public is heavily invested in both Virginia and the Over, but the Cavaliers' offensive identity makes a lower-scoring blowout realistic. Virginia controlled the ball for more than 38 minutes against NC State and showed it can dominate with long rushing possessions instead of constant explosive scoring.
Norfolk State managed only 10 points and 220 yards against Old Dominion, and Virginia's defense is a considerable upgrade. The Cavaliers can win by five or six touchdowns without the teams combining for 55 points.
