Villanova vs. Louisville Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CFB Odds for Friday, September 11th
Villanova heads into a short-week matchup against No. 24 Louisville after splitting its first two games, while the Cardinals are trying to recover from a draining last-second loss to Ole Miss. Louisville owns the overwhelming talent advantage, but the combination of a quick turnaround, an FCS opponent and likely second-half substitutions creates an interesting totals angle. 5 Minute ReadVillanova vs. Louisville Prediction: Can Lincoln Keinholz, Cardinals Bounce Back After Close Opening Loss with Blowout Over FCS Villanova on Friday Night?
Villanova travels to Louisville on Friday night to face No. 24 Louisville at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on ACC Network, with the Cardinals favored by 36.5 points only five days after their season opener against Ole Miss.
Louisville showed plenty of offensive upside in that opener, but Jeff Brohm now has little reason to push his starters deep into a matchup where the Cardinals should control the game. Villanova is also coming off a much more defensive performance in Week 1 after surviving Bucknell 17-16.
Villanova vs. Louisville Recent Results
Villanova is 1-1 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League play after beating Bucknell 17-16 on the road. Pat McQuaide threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns, but the Wildcats managed only 87 rushing yards and were held scoreless in the third quarter. Villanova opened the season with a 35-32 loss to William & Mary after finishing 12-3 last year and reaching the FCS semifinals.
Louisville is 0-1 after falling 41-38 to No. 9 Ole Miss on a 48-yard field goal as time expired. Lincoln Kienholz looked impressive in his first start, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns while adding 69 rushing yards, but the Cardinals scored only six first-half points before the game opened up after halftime. Louisville went 9-4 and 4-4 in ACC play last season, finishing with a 27-22 Boca Raton Bowl win over Toledo.
Villanova vs. Louisville Head to Head
Friday will be the first football meeting between Villanova and Louisville.
Villanova has plenty of experience stepping up against FBS competition, but last year's visit to No. 2 Penn State ended in a 52-6 loss. That type of scoring distribution matters for Friday's total because Villanova does not need to be completely shut out for an Under to cash, but it may struggle to contribute enough points to force Louisville to maintain an aggressive pace.

Villanova vs. Louisville Line Movement and Betting Splits
Louisville opened around -35.5 before moving to -36.5, while the total has climbed from approximately 55.5 to 56.5. The market has clearly favored both the Cardinals and a higher-scoring game.
Louisville has 82% of spread bets and 90% of the money, while the Over has attracted 81% of total tickets and 76% of the handle. There is no hidden Under signal in those splits, but the heavy public move toward points has created an extra point of value for a game script that could slow dramatically after halftime.
Villanova vs. Louisville Prediction
The 79 combined points against Ole Miss should not be treated as Louisville's new baseline. That game featured two ranked teams trading explosive plays in the second half, including several touchdowns of more than 30 yards. Louisville had only six points at halftime before the matchup turned into a shootout.
This situation is completely different. Louisville is favored by more than five touchdowns and has only five days between games. Brohm can use the matchup to get Kienholz more experience, but there is little benefit to exposing his starting quarterback and top skill players deep into the fourth quarter if the Cardinals establish the expected margin.
Villanova can also help shorten the game. The Wildcats ran 33 times against Bucknell and produced only 305 total yards. McQuaide is an experienced quarterback with more than 8,000 career passing yards, but Louisville should be able to generate substantially more pressure than the Patriot League defenses Villanova has faced through two games.
Louisville's defense was much better than the 41 points allowed to Ole Miss suggests over the larger sample. The Cardinals surrendered only 21.2 points and 303.1 yards per game in 2025, including just 114.3 rushing yards. Villanova is unlikely to consistently sustain drives against that level of front-seven talent.
The number does not require Louisville to struggle. A 42-7, 45-7 or 42-10 result all stays below 56.5 while still representing complete control by the Cardinals. Louisville can build a massive advantage and then spend much of the second half running the football, evaluating backups and getting through the short week healthy.
Villanova's first two games also provide a useful contrast. The opener reached 67 points because William & Mary scored 13 points in the final 53 seconds, while the second game produced only 33 combined points. The Wildcats are capable of playing a much slower game when late chaos is removed.
Villanova vs. Louisville Best Bet
- Best Bet: Under 56.5 Points (-110) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Louisville has the offensive talent to threaten this total, but the Cardinals are coming off an emotional 41-38 loss on just five days of rest and should have little incentive to keep their starters attacking once the game is secure. Villanova's biggest challenge is contributing enough offense to force Louisville to continue scoring.
With the public heavily backing the Over and the number already moving from 55.5 to 56.5, the better value comes from betting on a dominant but increasingly conservative Louisville performance.
