No. 18 Tennessee travels to Atlanta on Saturday night to face Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN, with the Volunteers favored by 12.5 points in Brandon's first collegiate road start.
Georgia Tech is trying to avoid an 0-2 start after losing 14-13 to Colorado on a blocked field goal as time expired. The Yellow Jackets struggled to finish drives in that opener, but Alberto Mendoza looked composed in his first start and now gets another home opportunity against a Tennessee team facing its first meaningful test of 2026.
Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech Recent Results
Tennessee is 1-0 after crushing Furman 56-9. Brandon completed 13 of 17 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 68 yards and two scores, and the Volunteers piled up 638 total yards. Tennessee went 8-5 overall and 4-4 in SEC play last season before losing 30-28 to Illinois in the Music City Bowl.
Georgia Tech is 0-1 after its 14-13 loss to Colorado. Mendoza completed 17 of 23 passes for 237 yards without an interception, Jordan Allen caught eight passes for 113 yards and Justice Haynes rushed for 64 yards, but the Jackets finished with only 51 rushing yards as a team and did not score an offensive touchdown. Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech Line Movement and Betting Splits
The market opened around Tennessee -12.5 and has traded between roughly -11.5 and -12.5, with this book back at -12.5. There has not been a dramatic broad-market move despite Tennessee's dominant opener.
Tennessee has attracted 72% of spread bets but only 52% of the money, while Georgia Tech has 28% of tickets and 48% of the handle. The moneyline discrepancy is even more extreme, with Georgia Tech taking only 5% of bets but 51% of the money. Tennessee is clearly the public side, while the larger average wagers are showing substantially more interest in the home underdog.

Tennessee's opener could hardly have gone better, but Furman did not provide the type of defensive speed Brandon will see Saturday. The freshman accounted for five touchdowns and immediately showed why he won the starting job, but Bobby Dodd Stadium will provide his first test managing crowd noise, road communication and pressure against an FBS defense.
Georgia Tech's opener was ugly offensively, yet Mendoza was one of the clear positives. He completed nearly 74% of his passes, averaged more than 10 yards per attempt and did not turn the ball over. His late 42-yard completion to Dalen Penson put Georgia Tech in position to win before the final kick was blocked.
The Yellow Jackets need significantly more from the rushing game. Haynes managed 64 yards, but Georgia Tech finished with only 51 as a team after sacks and other negative plays. That was especially disappointing for a program that averaged 197.5 rushing yards per game last season. Brent Key should make reestablishing that physical identity the priority against Tennessee.
Tennessee's defense looked dominant against Furman, producing six sacks while allowing only 220 yards. Arion Carter also returns after missing the opener, giving the Volunteers another experienced linebacker in the middle. Georgia Tech cannot count on simply attacking a vulnerable defense because the Vols have upgraded personnel around a group that struggled at times in 2025.
The larger sample still makes 12.5 points uncomfortable. Tennessee allowed 28.8 points and nearly 400 yards per game last season, while Georgia Tech averaged 32.2 points and 460 yards. The Jackets are unlikely to look as poor offensively every week as they did against Colorado.
Tennessee's explosive-play ability is the biggest threat to the wager. Mike Matthews caught only four passes against Furman but turned them into 132 yards and two long touchdowns, while DeSean Bishop and Justin Baker helped the Vols rush for 329 yards. Georgia Tech must prevent Brandon from creating quick scores that turn a competitive game into a two-touchdown margin before halftime.
Still, this is a significant jump from Furman to a nine-win ACC team on the road. Georgia Tech was one blocked kick from winning its opener despite failing to score an offensive touchdown, and Mendoza already showed he can create explosive passes without making reckless decisions.

Tennessee is the more explosive team and deserves to be favored, but Brandon is making his first road start against a Georgia Tech roster that should be much more competitive than its 0-1 record suggests. Mendoza looked sharp in his debut, the Jackets have a proven home-field edge under Key and the offense has obvious room to improve after scoring no touchdowns against Colorado.
The betting split adds another reason to take the points. Tennessee owns 72% of the tickets but only 52% of the money, while Georgia Tech has nearly half of the handle on just 28% of the bets. Nearly two touchdowns is too much in a spot where Tennessee's freshman quarterback finally has to handle a real road environment.
