Mississippi State and South Carolina are both 2-0 entering a 4:15 PM ET kickoff on SEC Network at Williams-Brice Stadium. South Carolina is favored by four points with a total of 58.5, but the spread has undergone one of the biggest adjustments of the week after Mississippi State's impressive road win at Minnesota.
The Bulldogs have scored 100 points in two games, beating ULM 62-13 before going to Minnesota and winning 38-13. South Carolina has been equally dominant on the scoreboard, opening with a 57-0 shutout of Kent State before beating Towson 45-9.

Mississippi State's opener against ULM was never competitive, with the Bulldogs winning 62-13. The more important result came one week later in Minneapolis, where Jeff Lebby's team scored touchdowns on each of its first four possessions and led 28-6 by halftime in a 38-13 road victory.
Taylor was the centerpiece, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns while adding 86 rushing yards. His ability to create vertically as a runner gave Minnesota problems throughout the first half, and Mississippi State controlled all three phases against a Big Ten opponent that had not lost at home since 2024.
South Carolina Gamecocks (2-0), (0-0 SEC)
South Carolina has outscored its first two opponents 102-9. The Gamecocks opened by shutting out Kent State 57-0, then handled Towson 45-9 in their second straight home game.
The final against Towson was dominant, but the offense did not completely overwhelm the Tigers early. South Carolina led only 17-3 at halftime before pulling away, and special teams contributed heavily to the final margin. That leaves this as the first true test of whether the Gamecocks' offense can maintain its early scoring rate against a Power Four defense.

South Carolina leads the all-time series 10-7 and has won eight of the last 10 meetings. The programs have played only once since 2016, with the Gamecocks winning a seven-point game in Columbia three years ago.

Mississippi State vs. South Carolina Line Movement and Betting Splits
South Carolina opened as high as -7.5 before the market aggressively repriced Mississippi State following its road performance at Minnesota. The spread has fallen through a full field goal to -4, while the total has climbed from the mid-50s into the 58.5 range.
Mississippi State is receiving majority support in both DraftKings spread handle and ticket count, but this is a heavily backed underdog rather than a hidden contrarian position.
There are also genuine trend conflicts. South Carolina is 18-11 ATS as a favorite over the last six seasons, and favorites have covered six of the last seven meetings in this series. Meanwhile, Mississippi State received the largest upward adjustment of any team in Week 3 power ratings after the Minnesota win, moving up 4.5 points.
Mississippi State vs. South Carolina Prediction
Taylor changes the ceiling of Mississippi State's offense. His passing production at Minnesota was efficient enough on its own, but adding 86 rushing yards forces a defense to account for an additional gap on every option or scramble look. That mobility becomes particularly useful on the road when protection breaks down and the quarterback has to manufacture third-down conversions.
The Bulldogs have also shown they can start fast away from Starkville. Four touchdowns on the first four possessions at Minnesota removed the crowd from the game and allowed Mississippi State to dictate the rest of the afternoon. A similar start would immediately put pressure on a South Carolina offense that has yet to play from a meaningful deficit.
Sellers remains the biggest concern for the underdog. His combination of size, mobility and experience gives South Carolina an answer when plays break down, and Mississippi State cannot allow quarterback runs to consistently turn third-and-medium into first downs. The Bulldogs' defensive performance through two weeks is encouraging, but Kent State and Towson have not prepared either side for the athleticism in this matchup.
South Carolina's early defensive numbers are spectacular, but the strength of schedule needs context. The Gamecocks have surrendered only 4.5 points per game, yet Mississippi State will be the first Power Four offense they see and is averaging 620.5 yards and 50 points through its first two contests.
The spread movement is particularly meaningful because it did not stop at -6 or -5.5. Moving from South Carolina -7.5 all the way to -4 represents a major reassessment of the matchup after only one additional data point, and that data point was Mississippi State dominating a legitimate road game rather than another FCS blowout.
Four points also protects against several realistic finals. South Carolina can win 31-28 or 34-31 and Mississippi State still covers. With Taylor capable of generating explosive plays both through the air and on the ground, the Bulldogs have enough offensive upside to answer even if Sellers produces a strong performance.
The counterargument is legitimate. South Carolina has the home field, favorable historical series trends and independent bettor ratings that still make the Gamecocks stronger than the current spread. But Mississippi State has already demonstrated more against quality competition this season, and the market correction toward the Bulldogs is too significant to dismiss as a reaction to one flashy box score.

Mississippi State is no longer a sneaky underdog after the move from +7.5 to +4, but the number still provides protection above a field goal. Taylor's dual-threat ability gives the Bulldogs a quarterback capable of keeping the offense functional even when South Carolina creates pressure, and the 38-13 win at Minnesota proved this roster can travel.
The Gamecocks may ultimately protect home field, but Mississippi State has already shown enough offensive balance to make a multi-score separation difficult. A 31-28 South Carolina win would fit the matchup and cash the four points.
