Buccaneers Baker Mayfield 2023

Browns vs. Buccaneers Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest NFL Odds for Sunday, September 20th

The Cleveland Browns travel to Tampa Bay for a Week 2 matchup featuring Baker Mayfield's first home game against the franchise that drafted him No. 1 overall. Can Mayfield, Emeka Egbuka and Deshaun Watson determine whether Tampa Bay turns its home opener into a convincing rebound performance? Check out this Browns vs. Buccaneers prediction and best bet for Sunday, September 20.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Prediction: Can Baker Mayfield Get Revenge on Former Team in Week 2?

Tampa Bay hosts Cleveland at Raymond James Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. The Buccaneers are 8.5-point favorites after both teams opened 0-1, with the total sitting at 41.5.

Cleveland was overwhelmed 34-10 by Jacksonville, while Tampa Bay lost 33-27 at Cincinnati despite Mayfield completing 23 of 28 passes. Turnovers were the defining difference for the Buccaneers, who lost four fumbles rather than getting consistently beaten on a down-to-down basis.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Recent Results

Cleveland Browns (0-1)

Cleveland's first game under Todd Monken quickly unraveled against Jacksonville. Watson completed 16 of 22 passes for 205 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding 38 rushing yards, but he was sacked five times and Cleveland consistently hurt itself with protection and operational mistakes.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1)

Tampa Bay moved the football more effectively in Cincinnati than the final result suggests. Mayfield threw for 216 yards without an interception and added a rushing touchdown, but he was charged with three of Tampa Bay's four lost fumbles in a 33-27 defeat. The Buccaneers now return home looking to avoid their first 0-2 start since 2014.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Line Movement and Betting Splits

Tampa Bay has been aggressively upgraded after Week 1. Early prices ranged from Buccaneers -5.5 to roughly -8 depending on the sportsbook, and the current board has reached -8.5. Cleveland's 24-point loss and continued protection problems have outweighed Tampa Bay's own opening defeat.

Early DraftKings splits showed Tampa Bay attracting 82% of spread tickets and 91% of spread money. This is not a case of a low-ticket favorite being carried by a few large wagers. Both the public betting volume and money have consistently sided with the Buccaneers.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Prediction

The Cleveland offensive line is the biggest reason to consider laying a large number. Watson was sacked five times by Jacksonville, and the Browns now have to reshuffle again with Teven Jenkins ruled out. Parker Brailsford and several other linemen have also spent the week managing injuries.

Tampa Bay is built to exploit protection uncertainty. Todd Bowles can create pressure from different alignments, and Watson has to prove he can consistently identify those looks while operating Monken's new offense. Cleveland's inability to stay ahead of the sticks in Week 1 repeatedly eliminated any chance of controlling game script.

Mayfield's turnover problems are unlikely to repeat at the same rate. He completed more than 82% of his passes in Cincinnati and did not throw an interception. If Tampa Bay simply protects the football, the underlying offensive performance was strong enough to generate a much cleaner result.

The matchup also gives Mayfield an obvious emotional storyline, but the football advantage matters more. Tampa Bay can spread Cleveland horizontally, create favorable matchups for Egbuka and attack a Browns secondary that may be without Tyson Campbell, who is questionable with an ankle injury.

Cleveland's defense is talented enough to prevent a total runaway, particularly with Myles Garrett still capable of destroying drives. The issue is whether the Browns offense can keep that unit from spending the afternoon defending short fields and repeated possessions. Jacksonville's 34 points in Week 1 showed how quickly the game can separate when Cleveland's offense cannot sustain drives.

Laying 8.5 always introduces backdoor risk, but Tampa Bay has a much clearer path to the mid-to-high 20s. Cleveland needs Watson and a new offensive line to improve significantly in one week just to keep pace.

Browns vs. Buccaneers Best Bet

Tampa Bay's Week 1 loss was driven heavily by fumbles rather than an inability to move the ball. Cleveland's defeat exposed more structural problems, particularly protection, communication and offensive consistency.

If the Buccaneers clean up the turnovers, they should create enough possessions to pull away. Cleveland can keep the score respectable for stretches, but Tampa Bay has the better quarterback situation and the matchup advantage against the Browns' reconstructed line.
