Packers vs. Jets Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest NFL Odds for Sunday, September 20th

The Green Bay Packers travel to MetLife Stadium for the Jets' home opener after the teams experienced completely different fourth quarters in Week 1. Can Geno Smith and Garrett Wilson keep New York's offense efficient enough to challenge Jordan Love and a Green Bay team trying to recover from a collapse in Minnesota? Check out this Packers vs. Jets prediction and best bet for Sunday, September 20.

Packers vs. Jets Prediction: Can Geno Smith, Jets Surprise Packers as Week 2 Public Dog?

Green Bay enters as a 3.5-point road favorite for the 1:00 PM ET kickoff on FOX, with the total at 44.5. The Packers were initially priced much higher before the market moved aggressively toward New York.

Green Bay led Minnesota 22-10 in the third quarter before surrendering 29 unanswered points in a 39-22 loss. New York went into Tennessee as a slight underdog and controlled the Titans 23-10, giving Aaron Glenn's team an immediate opportunity to open 2-0 at home.

Packers vs. Jets Recent Results

Green Bay Packers (0-1, 0-1 NFC North)

Green Bay produced 10 explosive plays totaling 313 yards against Minnesota but scored only 22 points. Love was sacked four times behind an offensive line missing Aaron Banks, and the defense now loses defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for Week 2 while Warren Brinson remains out.

New York Jets (1-0)

The Jets never trailed in their 23-10 win at Tennessee and carried a 23-3 advantage into the fourth quarter. New York enters the home opener with some defensive losses of its own, as Minkah Fitzpatrick and Joseph Ossai are both out, but the Week 1 performance established a much higher floor than the market projected entering the season.

Packers vs. Jets Head to Head

  • October 16, 2022: New York Jets 27, Green Bay Packers 10
  • December 23, 2018: Green Bay Packers 44, New York Jets 38
  • September 14, 2014: Green Bay Packers 31, New York Jets 24
  • October 31, 2010: Green Bay Packers 9, New York Jets 0
  • December 3, 2006: New York Jets 38, Green Bay Packers 10

New York leads the all-time series 9-5 and won the most recent meeting convincingly at Lambeau Field. The franchises meet infrequently enough that the history carries limited predictive value, but this is another matchup in which the Jets have rarely been intimidated by Green Bay's reputation.

Packers vs. Jets Line Movement and Betting Splits

Green Bay opened around -5.5 before dropping through -5 and -4 to the current -3.5. The total moved in the opposite direction, climbing from approximately 43.5 to 44.5 as the market lowered its opinion of Green Bay's spread advantage without necessarily downgrading the offense.

The early DraftKings split was one of the strongest of Week 2. New York received 57% of spread tickets but 90% of the money, a substantial handle advantage that aligned directly with the move toward the home underdog.

Packers vs. Jets Prediction

Love remains the best reason to hesitate before backing New York. Green Bay generated explosive plays against Minnesota and moved the football much better than the 22-point final suggests for significant stretches.

The concern is what happens when possessions break down. Love took four sacks in Week 1, and the offensive line enters another difficult environment against a Jets defense designed to create pressure and force quarterbacks to speed up their internal clock.

New York is missing Ossai and Fitzpatrick, so this is not a fully healthy defense. Green Bay should find opportunities downfield, particularly if the Packers can create favorable play-action situations. The question is whether those explosives become touchdowns rather than empty yards.

Smith gives the Jets the veteran quarterback needed to exploit Green Bay's defensive injuries. Hargrave is out and Brinson remains unavailable, weakening the interior of a front that just watched Minnesota completely reverse the game after halftime.

New York does not need to dominate this matchup. At +3.5, the Jets can lose by a field goal and still cash. Smith's experience, home field and a defense that held Tennessee to 10 points create a realistic path to another one-possession game.

The market move reinforces the matchup case. Green Bay has already been discounted by two full points from the opener, yet the spread still provides the Jets with protection above the key number of three.

Packers vs. Jets Best Bet

Green Bay is capable of winning outright, but laying more than a field goal on the road asks the Packers to show that their Week 1 collapse was isolated. New York is already playing with more confidence and structure than preseason expectations suggested.

The Jets also have the more attractive number. A 23-20 Packers victory is enough, and the substantial larger-wager support on New York matches a football case built around pressure, home field and Smith's ability to keep the offense functional.
