2000 Guineas Runner-By-Runner Guide & Confirmed Riders

Craven Stakes winner Field Of Gold heads the betting market as 11 runners were declared for the first classic of the flat season.

By using the 2000 Guineas runners guide above, not only are you getting the latest runners, but also the very best odds from the most reputable bookmakers around.

Steve Ryder talks through the key betting trends and analyses every runner still in contention for the race on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket.

  • 21 of the previous 23 winners had won over at least 7f before
  • 20 of the previous 23 winners had won a group race prior to this race
  • 18 of the previous 23 winners won last time out
  • 15 of the previous 23 winners were having their first run of the season
  • 14 of the previous 23 winners had won just two or three races in their career before
  • Nine of the previous 23 winners were trained by Aidan O’Brien

Field Of Gold (Kieran Shoemark)

He won the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown last season before finishing 4th behind Camille Pissarro in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on soft ground. Returned with a dominant performance in the Group 3 Craven Stakes over C&D and is a worthy favourite at the head of the market.

Scorthy Champ (Dylan Browne McMonagle)

All three of his career starts have come over 7f on good ground resulting in two victories. He finished 3rd beaten two lengths in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes behind Henri Matisse before reversing the form in the Group 1 National Stakes on his final start last season.

Shadow Of Light (Mickael Barzalona)

Won four of his five starts as a juvenile including two Group 1s at this track. He won the Middle Park by four lengths before beating Expanded by a neck in the Dewhurst Stakes over 7f on soft ground.

Ruling Court (William Buick)

Cost 2,300,000 euros as a breeze up purchase prior to winning at Sandown on his debut by 5½ lengths. Finished 3rd to The Lion In Winter in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes on his next start before winning the listed Jumeirah 2000 Guineas in Meydan on his reappearance this season. Coroebus won this as a ‘second string’ in 2022 so he warrants respect - William Buick is on board.

Expanded (Ryan Moore)

Won on his debut at the Curragh over 7f before finishing a neck 2nd only a week later in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at this course.

Green Impact (Shane Foley)

Beat the talented Delacroix twice last season including in the Group 2 Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown over this trip of a mile in September. Jessie Harrington also had the option of running Group 1 winner Hotazhell so it appears a positive that the stable run the son of Wootton Bassett instead.

Wimbledon Hawkeye (Harry Davies)

Defied odds of 28/1 to make a winning debut at Kempton before running well in group company on his next five starts. Won the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes over this course and distance on soft ground and made a good reappearance when 2nd behind Field Of Gold in the Craven Stakes.

Seagulls Eleven (Tom Marquand)

112 rated colt by Galileo Gold who won this race in 2016. Was 3rd beaten only 1 ½ lengths by Scorthy Champ in the Group 1 National Stakes before finishing 4th behind Shadow Of Light in the Dewhurst Stakes. He was well beaten on his final start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf behind Henri Matisse when 7 ¼ lengths behind that rival.

Yah Mo Be There (Jamie Spencer)

Beaten only a short head at York on his debut, he finished down the field in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes on his next start. He then broke his maiden in a listed race at Newbury before finishing 5th behind Jonquil in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes on his reappearance.

Tornado Alert (Silvestre de Sousa)

Finished 3rd on his debut at Lingfield before winning a maiden over a mile at Newcastle on his final start last season in October. Despite his recent lack of runners in classics, it is worth noting that Saeed Bin Suroor trained Mawj to win the 1000 Guineas in 2023.

Benevento (David Egan)

Made a winning debut at Yarmouth for Dominic French Davis before winning the listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster under the care of Raphael Freire. Finished 4th in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes on his final start as a juvenile on heavy ground before finishing 4th in the Craven Stakes behind Field Of Gold.
