Tony Bellew produced a huge upset as he beat David Haye in a dramatic fight at the O2 Arena.
Haye's trainer Shane McGuigan was forced to throw the towel in when Haye stumbled over the ropes in the 11th round after fighting on since round six with an achilles injury.
The Bermondsey born fighter started quickly as he landed a flurry of punches on Bellew but the 34-year-old stood strong. The crucial moment of the fight then came in the sixth round when Haye slipped and damaged his achilles.
Haye was clearly in agony but he refused to give in and hobbled on through the next five rounds unable to fight to his full capability as the bout swung in the favour of Bellew, before McGuigan threw in the towel.
Despite all the insults that dominated the build up to the fight, the pair embraced each other at the end as they revealed how much respect they have for one another.
Following the win, Bellew said: "I’ve secured my kids’ future. That’s all I care about, I don’t care about winning.
"David I thank you from the bottom of my heart. He picked me. It was genuine, I wanted to beat him more than anything. So much respect for David as a fighter," admitted Bellew.
Haye also refused to draw attention to his injury following the fight, unlike when he lost to Wladimir Klitschko back in 2011. He said: "I trained great, I felt good. This guy has the heart of a lion. I’ve knocked out people a lot bigger.
"I didn’t expect him to have the chin.I have to take my hat off to Tony Bellew. He was the better champion. He has bigger balls than me. You done me. I’d love to do it again. I’ve never been in a fight like that before. If the fans would want to do it again," added Haye.
