Canelo v GGG: Bettors expect fight to go to late rounds

This weekend's middleweight title fight in Las Vegas is as close as they come.

Two of the best pound for pound fighters in world boxing will finally enter the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning, and the general expectation is that the fight will not disappoint.

The skill and power of both fighters will be truly put to the test and it is a bout that many believe will go the distance. 50% of bets on the method of victory market predict the fight will go to the scorecards (28.5% on Canelo and 21.5% on Golovkin).

This differs to what our twitter following predict however. Almost half voted for Golovkin to beat the Mexican by KO or TKO, whilst 15% think Canelo can knock out the unbeaten 35-year-old.

Punters are consistent in their betting patterns when looking at round betting, where they continue to stake their money on the later rounds.

Just 8% of bets have been on either fighter delivering a knockout blow in the first 180 seconds. This is in stark contrast to the patterns we saw for Mayweather v McGregor, where a combined 23.5% of bets were on a first round stoppage, more than any other round.

It is only once you get past the half way mark when significant amounts of bets are placed. 15.3%  are on the Kazakhstani to finish proceedings in the seventh round.

If the fight does go deep, as expected by punters, they are siding with the younger man. 31.5% of bets are on Canelo to KO his opponent in round 8 or after, whilst 22.8% of bets on round 8+ are on Golovkin.
