Punters backing underdog Lucas Browne ahead of Dillian Whyte showdown

Punters backing underdog Lucas Browne ahead of Dillian Whyte showdown

The Australian has been favoured in the betting ahead of the Heavweight clash at the O2.

18,000 fans are set to cram into the O2 Arena on Saturday night ahead of what could be a career-defining night for either Dillian Whyte or Lucas Browne.

A victory for either men could well see them get a crack at one of the top Heavyweights in the world (something Whyte has done before) and with it, newfound riches and fame.

Both men have a high KO percentage and big punching power, but when it comes to the betting it’s the Australian Browne that has been favoured by punters.

Not well known in this country and a man who didn’t even step foot in a boxing ring until he was 30, the Aussie has quietly amassed a 25 fight unbeaten record with 22 KOs. Browne is a best price of 3/1 but 58% of punters have opted for him in the winners market, compared to 38% for Whyte (4/11) and 4% for the draw (28/1).

In the method of victory market, the power of Browne has clearly swayed punters’ minds and a massive 62% of all bets have gone on the Perth man to knock out Whyte, something that only Anthony Joshua has done before. It’s 6/1 that this happens, with the market favourite of Whyte decision only getting 19% of the bets, despite being 5/4.

When it comes to the round betting, it’s the outsider of the lot that has been the most backed. Browne has knocked out his opponent in the first round five times and it’s a massive 100/1 best price that he does the same on Saturday. However, more bets have gone on it happening than any other round.

Whatever happens, it promises to be a fascinating battle and is further proof of the current increased popularity in the Heavyweight scene.

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Not many will have heard of Lucas Browne but the big punching Aussie will certainly catapult himself onto the big stage if he knocks out Dillian Whyte on Saturday and that’s what punters believe is going to happen. A win could put Browne into the mix for a fight against Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder and the 3/1 on Browne to win could shrink before the fight if the money continues to come in.”
