Joshua was taken 12 rounds for the first time and money has come in for Wilder should the two meet.
It was a night of contrasts in Cardiff as Anthony Joshua did what 78,000 fans came to see and became a unified Heavyweight Champion by beating Joseph Parker.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for AJ, as he went the full 12 rounds for the first time against a tough and durable Parker, who never looked in danger of being stopped. Joshua won comfortably on the scorecards, but many watching at the Principality Stadium thought that the fight should have been scored closer than what it was.
Afterwards Joshua wasted no time in calling out Deontay ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder and Tyson Fury aside, it looks like the match-up that the public want to see. Eddie Hearn said that representatives of the American ‘Don’t want the fight’, but if it does happen, there could be more punters in Wilder’s corner than the Watford slugger.
Since last night’s fight, 48% of punters have backed Wilder (15/8) compared to just 42% for Joshua (4/7), with a surprisingly big 10% going for the draw (33/1).
It’s an even starker picture in the Method Of Victory marker, with a massive 95% of bets going on a Wilder KO, which can be got at a best price of 9/4. With Wilder going on a ridiculous 32-fight KO streak at the start of his career, it could well be yet another fight that does not go the distance.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Anthony Joshua got the job done in Cardiff but it wasn’t a vintage performance and it’s led punters to back the American Deontay Wilder should the two end up meeting. Wilder continues to mow through his opponents and this transatlantic showdown is the one that everyone wants to see. Time will tell if it’s what we get though!”
