Some bookies see a 90.9% probability Joshua wins the fight.
It has now been confirmed that Anthony Joshua will fight American Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden on June 1st.
This will be Joshua’s debut on US soil and despite Miller’s unbeaten record, the matchup looks severely one-sided on paper.
That is reflected in the odds released by bookmakers, with some as short as 1/10 in Joshua’s favour, implying a whopping 90.9% probability he wins in New York. The best price on offer for the Brit is currently 1/6, still implying an 85.7% chance.
Meanwhile, his opponent can be backed at a best price of 11/2, despite fighting on home soil.
The announcement was met with collective disappointment from UK boxing fans who had still held out hope of a mouth-watering clash with either Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder. What now looks likely is that a rematch between that pair will be confirmed imminently.
Joshua will be hoping to defend his WBA ‘super’, IBF and WBO belts, which he has picked up from an immaculate 22 professional victories.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Yet again Anthony Joshua is the overwhelming favourite in a fight that underwhelms boxing fans around the world.
“They want to see the British fighter take on the best on offer and looking at the odds, they’re due to be let down.”
