Crawford v Khan: Punters back the 9/1 underdog

Crawford v Khan: Punters back the 9/1 underdog

The big price is tempting plenty in ahead of tonight’s WBO welterweight title fight.

Despite the odds suggesting Terence Crawford will have very little trouble defending his WBO welterweight title against Amir Khan tonight, punters fancy the big price on the Bolton-born boxer.

At 9/1, Amir Khan is a massive underdog against Crawford, who is priced at 1/25 in places. That’s an implied probability of 96.2% that the American emerges victorious.

However, it seems plenty have been tempted in by the chunky price on the Brit, as he bids to finish his career on a high with an upset in New York. He’s attracted 56% of bets in the last 24 hours, compared to the 35% on Crawford.

Crawford has an immaculate 34-fight record, a world title holder in three different weight divisions, and the 31-year-old is unsurprisingly heavily fancied to defend his title on home soil.

32-year-old Khan’s last attempt to win a world title came against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2016, when he was knocked out in the sixth round.

The fight at Madison Square Garden, will take place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “It’s hugely unlikely Amir Khan will get anything from tonight’s fight, as the odds rightly indicate. That hasn’t stopped a flood of bets coming in for Khan as punters back the fairy-tale ending.

“His speed will be matched by Crawford and concerns over his ability to take heavy shots remain, but at 9/1 you can’t blame some for having a flutter.”
