Battle of Britain: Who is the favourite in a potential Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua fight?

Battle of Britain: Who is the favourite in a potential Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua fight?

Fury is an early favourite to beat Joshua

After an incredible boxing display on Saturday which saw Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder with a technical knockout in the seventh round to win the WBC Heavyweight and The Ring championship belts - there is a lot of speculation over who the Gypsy King will be fighting next.

Anthony Joshua is the favourite for the fight with many bookies already pricing up the scrap to happen before the end of the year. Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn may have spiced these rumours up by tweeting; “No need for a third let’s go straight to it in the summer! #undisputed” - encouraging a matchup between the two heavyweights.

A fight which has been heavily anticipated for a number of years may finally be happening, now with higher stakes than ever. Tyson Fury now holds the WBC and The Ring belts and Anthony Joshua regained the WBA, IBF & WBO belts after his rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr meaning that the victor would emerge Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion.

There are strong rumours of Joshua already having a fight lined up in June this summer at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium against Kubrat Pulev, a fight that was originally planned for 2017, however, never happened due to Pulev withdrawing due to an injury.

However, both boxers are struggling to agree on terms as there are claims Joshua wants his next fight to be in the UK, which Pulev is not in favour of. After Anthony Joshua lost on his US debut to Andy Ruiz Jr back in June of last year, the Watford boxer may be sceptical of fighting on foreign soil again just yet.

Indecisiveness from both Joshua and Pulev may favour the likelihood of a Fury v Joshua fight. With both fighters having extremely strong portfolios of victories it seems the only people left for the two top ranked heavyweights (Tyson Fury 1st, Anthony Joshua 2nd – according to The Ring magazine) to fight is each other to become the undisputed heavyweight world champion.
