Canelo vs Mbilli: Tips, Predictions & Odds

Canelo Alvarez is the 2/5 favourite to beat Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight title in Riyadh tonight.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez returns to the ring in Riyadh tonight as the challenger. That's an unfamiliar role for a fighter who has spent most of the last decade holding the belts. Thirteen months after losing his undisputed super-middleweight crown to Terence Crawford, the 36-year-old takes on Christian Mbilli for the WBC title over 12 rounds.

Mbilli is unbeaten at 29-0-1, with 24 knockouts. The 31-year-old was born in Cameroon, boxes for France and is based in Montreal. He became full WBC champion when Crawford retired in December 2025, so tonight is his first defence. Both men came in under the 168lb limit at Friday's weigh-in. Even so, the betting still treats Canelo as the man to beat, despite the champion's record and his relentless pressure style.

Who Is the Favourite in Canelo vs Mbilli?

Canelo is the favourite at a best price of 2/5, which gives him an implied chance of around 71%. Mbilli is 13/5 (about 28%), and the draw is 16/1.

Prices have moved both ways on fight morning. Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet cut Canelo to 3/10, while bet365, Betfred and William Hill eased him to 4/11. Mbilli has drifted slightly overall. His best price is 13/5, up from 5/2 earlier in the week, and Betfred and bet365 now go 5/2.

The market's case for Canelo is mostly about style. Mbilli comes forward and throws in volume, and that kind of pressure has suited Canelo's counterpunching and body work throughout his career. Crawford backed Canelo, describing Mbilli's style as "tailor-made" for the Mexican, and Devin Haney agrees. Bob Arum is the most notable dissenting voice, saying he thinks it's "the end of the road" for Canelo.

The fight is 2/7 to go the distance (best 10/29 at Unibet) and 5/2 not to. That reflects Canelo's recent record. His last four wins have all been on unanimous decisions, and he hasn't stopped anyone since Caleb Plant in 2021. Canelo by decision at 5/6 carries an implied chance of around 55%, making it the single most likely result.

Canelo vs Mbilli Prediction and Tips

The evidence points to Canelo on the cards. Mbilli's work rate will make him competitive early. However, his split draw with Lester Martinez last year showed that he can be held up by a well-organised opponent, and Canelo is far more experienced than anyone Mbilli has faced. The worry for Canelo backers is his engine at 36 after a long layoff. Both Dmitry Bivol and Crawford outworked him over 12 rounds.

Tip: Canelo by decision at 5/6.

For those who think Mbilli's pressure will tell late, Mbilli by decision at 4/1 is a better option than backing him to stop a man who has never been stopped.
