A 33rd Test match 100 for the Chef sees plenty of bets on him scooping the prestigious prize.
Upon scoring a century in his last ever England match, Alastair Cook has been cut from 50/1 into as short as 8/1 to win the Sports Personality Of The Year award. However, 12/1 is still available with some bookmakers if you shop around.
England's greatest ever run scorer slowly but surely managed to conjure up yet another century just before lunch, having scored 71 in the first innings.
Up until 12:50pm, Cook was still available at 33/1 to win the prestigious award but after a fairytale ending to his illustrious career, bookies were quick to cut his odds to win SPOTY.
In the past hour since Cook delivered, 92% of all bets have been placed on him winning SPOTY. He still remains an outside chance, with Geraint Thomas and Harry Kane both leading the market at odds of 7/4 and 5/2 respectively.
Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Alastair Cook has been a superb professional throughout his career and it was only fitting that he walked away from the international scene with another century in the bag.
He is still a big price for SPOTY and he is against some true sporting greats this year, but for his work both on and off the field, he has to be considered as he is a legend of the game.”
