Joe Root and co started off the tournament as clear favourites
England have slipped to third favourites to win the Cricket World Cup 2019, after starting off the tournament as clear favourites.
The hosts were originally 13/8 favourites to win the World Cup, but that’s been lengthened to 4/1 following their defeats to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia.
That means Australia (9/4) and India (11/5) have both leapt above Joe Root and co, for the first time since bookies started taking bets.
New Zealand make up the rest of the top four favourites at 13/2, although Pakistan have been cut from 50/1 into 16/1 at the time of writing.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “England’s World Cup campaign got off to a flyer and they even broke the world record for most scores of 300+ consecutively.
“However, a loss to Pakistan and loss of their reliable opener Jason Roy has seen holes appear in this previously dominant England side. They will need to get back on track soon or risk crashing out of their home tournament before the knock-out rounds.”
