It's just not cricket! Will The Hundred continue altering the sport's lexicon?

‘Wickets’ are now ‘Outs’ but what else will The Hundred change?

The Hundred is already causing a stir

The Hundred launches this summer and is already causing a stir before a ball has been ‘pitched’.

The tournament is looking to attract a new audience to the world of cricket and they are coming up with plenty of innovative ways to do so.

Changing the format wasn’t enough for those behind the Hundred and they’re now looking to change the terminology that has been used for centuries when talking about cricket.

Earlier this week, it was announced that ‘Wickets’ would be renamed ‘Outs’ which caused an uproar among cricket fans.

Plenty think they are going too far, however, it may not stop there.

Bookmakers have priced up further terminology to be changed. While some of it may be unlikely, you can definitely see the minds behind The Hundred considering a few of these.

After all, cricket terminology can be quite confusing, so why not make it easier to understand for fans new to the game?

What terminology may be used in The Hundred?

The shortest priced term to be changed and one you can definitely see happening is ‘Man Of The Match’ to ‘MVP’. At just 2/1 this is the most likely term to be changed and one that could actually work pretty well.

Plenty more American terminology is priced up. ‘Six’ to ‘Home Run’ is 5/1, ‘Batsmen’ to ‘Hitter’ is 10/1 and ‘Bowler’ to ‘Pitcher’ is priced at 20/1.

Although, that would essentially turn The Hundred into a game of baseball.

To make the coin toss at the start of the game more exciting than it currently is, why not change it to ‘Face Off’? It could add a whole new element to the game where the coin toss becomes almost as important as the game itself.

At even bigger odds, ‘Dropped Catch’ to ‘Touchdown’ can be backed at 66/1, but we aren’t sure that makes cricket any less confusing for a newcomer.

‘Wide’ to ‘Out Of Bounds’ is available at 33/1. Is that value?

‘LBW’ to ‘Just Too Confusing’ is also in the betting and is one that those who struggle to grasp the seemingly never ending rules of cricket may want to see introduced.

At 100/1 and the biggest price on offer, ‘Four’ to ‘Three-Pointer’ can be backed, but we aren’t so sure about that one.

Could any of these changes really happen? Well, they have created an entirely new format of cricket so you can’t rule it out.

The purists might not want to tune in if they change anymore of the sport they love.
