The Ashes 2023 was already arguably the most eagerly anticipated match-up between England and Australia since the infamous 2005 series, even before the visitors put themselves on a pedestal as cricket’s World Test Champions last weekend, beating India by 209 runs at the Oval.

England Odds to Win the Ashes

Since the appointment of Stokes just over a year ago, England (best price 8/5) have beaten New Zealand, India, South Africa, Pakistan and Ireland while playing an ultra-aggressive brand of cricket dubbed ‘Bazball’ in tribute to their New Zealand-born coach Brendon McCullum - himself appointed to the role just two weeks after Stokes.

A six-game winning streak was brought to an end in February of this year, as England became just the fourth team in history to lose after enforcing the follow on. Having been set a target of 258 to win, Stokes' side fell just one run short despite a knock of 95 from Root.

Now playing under Pat Cummins, captain since November 2021, Australia haven’t won the Ashes in England since 2001, but they haven’t lost a series since 2015. The last series in England finishes two apiece after England won the final test at the Oval by 135 runs.
