Punters are backing another fairy tale ending in the darts with a complete rank outsider competing at Lakeside.
Earlier this week Rob Cross, an electrician less than a year ago, made history by becoming the World Champion in his first professional year. Having beaten Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final, Rob ‘Voltage’ Cross took full care of Phil Taylor as the legend could only stand and watch in his last ever match as he fell to a 7-2 loss.
Now punters attentions have turned to the BDO and believe there could be another shock winner. Nearly 23% of Oddschecker’s punters are hoping Derk Telnekes, best priced at 80/1, can pull off an almighty upset. The Dutch darts player will play in his first ever BDO World Championships but he comes into the tournament with promise, having won the Belgium Open in 2017 as well as reaching the semi-final of the Czech Open last November.
Unsurprisingly Glen Durrant is best priced 11/8 and is the clear favourite to win back to back Championships. After reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Slam at the back end of last year, there is no surprise to see almost 20% of Oddschecker punters backing him to gain a second title.
