Steven Gerrard managed 21 MLS appearances for LA Galaxy, scoring three times as they secured a third place finish in the Western Conference. But the former Liverpool midfielder’s MLS adventure appears to be over before it really began, after Galaxy confirmed his departure. But what next for Gerrard?
Just last week, ESPN reported that Gerrard had no plans to hang up his boots just yet and quoted the Reds’ stalwart as saying: “I still love coming into training, I still love competing, so if I can carry on and there are opportunities to stay or go somewhere else for six or 12 months, then I’ll consider it”. Two of the clubs reportedly showing an interest in Gerrard’s services are Celtic and Newcastle, which would mean a reunion with Brendan Rodgers (and Kolo Toure) or Rafa Benitez respectively.
It’s Rodgers’ Celtic that are the bookies favourites to sign Gerrard. Celtic are as short as 3/2 to be his next club, with 2/1 still available. On the other hand, a reunion with Rafa at Newcastle is now as short as 5/1, having been 22/1 on Sunday. Interestingly, you can now only get 17/2 on Gerrard returning to Liverpool, with 18/1 available at the end of last week. But have Liverpool moved on?
