Marco Silva shortening to become the new Hull manager

Marco Silva is emerging as a strong candidate to take over from Mike Phelan at Hull, following his sacking last night.

Marco Silva's odds have been shortening this morning to take over from Mike Phelan at Hull, following the 54 year old's sacking last night.

Silva, who is currently out of work following his departure from Olympiacos last year, has moved from 16/1 to 5/4 early this morning. The former Portuguese footballer has had successful spells at both Estoril and Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese top league, as well as Olympiacos but a move to the Premier League would surely be a stern test of his credentials.

Having been 2/1 when the market opened, it's now looking increasingly unlikely that Alan Pardew will be making a swift return to management, with his odds out to 8/1.

Gary Rowatt remains the marginal favourite to take over at Hull, with odds of 10/11 for him to make the move. When the market started though, he was the heavy favourite at 1/3 and at that time looked like a done deal.

Silva has emerged as a serious contender for the job though and it's looking increasingly likely that the Hull board are willing to take a chance on him, giving his successful, if a little short, managerial career.
