Brighton linked with two former Premier League legends

Chris Hughton is on the verge or adding a former three time Premier League winner to his squad.

Brighton and Hove Albion have been linked with a sensational move to sign Robbie Keane and Frank Lampard. Both players are free agents after leaving New York City and LA Galaxy respectively.

After missing out on finishing in the top two of the Championship last season by goal difference, they suffered their third defeat in the last four years at the semi-final stage of the play-offs. The Seagulls will be hoping to go one better this season and they currently sit at the top of the table, two points clear of Newcastle with a game in hand.

Robbie Keane left LA Galaxy after the current season, spending six seasons in America. He has stated that he isn’t retiring and he’s looking for the next chapter of his career. At 36, he boasts an impressive CV which includes Spurs, Inter Milan and Liverpool, as well as a remarkable record for Ireland. Keane previously worked with Brighton’s manager Chris Hughton during his first spell at White Hart Lane and overnight the odds have been slashed from 8/1 to 3/1 that he’ll make the move to the Amex Stadium.

Former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard is also on Brighton’s radar. The 38-year-old spent two seasons with New York City where he failed to win a major trophy. Brighton already have one of the best midfields in the league which consists of Steve Sidwell, Ollie Norwood, Beram Kayal and Dale Stephens. The acquisition of Lampard would add a wealth of experience to the squad as well as goals from midfield.

The ex-England international currently lives in Surrey and Brighton could be seen as the perfect club for him to finish his career at. The bookmakers have priced him at 9/4 for Brighton to be his next club.

Brighton are unbeaten in the league since September and either player would be a welcome addition. They will undoubtedly be challenging for a top two finish and the club will be hoping to go one step further this year and achieve promotion to the Premier League for the first time.
